Does anyone know when you are supposed to book it with the church after the baby is born or before or does it not matter....


Also what should we expect from the godparents- are they supposed to buy the outfit and cross or is this just an italian thing??

I didn't plan Michael's until he was about 2 months old. I knew when and where I wanted it, it just took me a long time to get in the groove of things, lol. Anyway, my brother and SIL spoke to the Church before their baby was born, so I guess if you have an idea of when then there's nothing wrong with speaking with the Church if you want.

I didn't expect anything of my son's Godparents, but they did do the outfit and cross because it is what they thought was the Godparent thing to do. I think MOST Godparents know the traditional gifts, but you can't expect it.

I booked my christening before Gianna was born. She was Baptized at 7 weeks old.

I am italian, so not sure if it's the italian thing... but Gianna's godfather my bro- bought her the cross and her godmother-his wife-bought her the christening gown.

For #2 I am buying her the gown since her godmother is a friend of mine.

As for booking, it does depend on your church. Mine said I could not book it until after the baby was born b/c they needed a copy of the birth certificate.
