Re-doing drywall- has anyone ever done it yourself?
The drywall in our living room has a big crack in one spot and is warped in another. We put beadboard paneling over it, but now I want to get new sheetrock. DH wants to do it himself. The two of us have NOT been a smashing success at big projects. How tough is this to do? I have asthma and I'm pregnant, so I won't really be able to help.
Would we be nuts? Budget is an issue but I don't know if the payoff will be worth it. Thanks.

Are the crack and the warping in close proximity to one another? How many boards of sheetrock do you think it will require? The number of boards will indicate how much taping and spackling is required.
It's not difficult, but requires skill (and patience). I'd suggest getting a book on it to educate yourself - -- or better yet, take a class at the Home Depot. You need to understand some of the tips and shortcuts before doing it yourself.
If it's a big area, or someplace that is in clear vision, I'd think twice since you haven't done it before.
