RE: Gates-IF You have stairs and one side is the post and the other is the wall....
What kind of gate do you have?
I am having the hardest time finding a gate for the bottom/top of my stairs. One side is the post the other is the wall with a baseboard
In a perfect world, I would want one that I can open and close and is hardmounted since I use them alot and need to access the stairs with at least one kid in my arms.
Any recs?

We have the same setup at the top off the stairs, the gate is mounted into the wall above the molding and we open and close it on the post side. It has held up for over a year with no complaints, but we did have to use special anchor screws in the wall since we could not catch a beam.
We have this gate

I used this one which I really like on our stairway that has wall on both sides, but I'm not happy with the way it fits on the bannisters. 1Wwe had to jury rig the latch. It's very secure, I can lean on it with all my weight and it doesn't give, but it's a PITA.

I have 2 of these that I ordered from One Step Ahead that I'm going to return, they required a lot of assembly and it was too hard for me to try to figure out while keeping an eye on the kids at the same time. I think they would have worked better, but I lost my patience.

I think it's Cosco, and although it fits in the space kind of crooked, it does close and lock tightly.

i have the safeway gate and love it. we have 3 of them in our house 2 of them are mounted where it is wall/baseboard and post and the other one is mounted between 2 posts. all of them are great! if you buy the installation kit it will solve all of your mounting problems! they sell both at babies r us and are made by kidco.

Re: RE: Gates-IF You have stairs and one side is the post and the other is the wall....
I cannot even tell you what we went through to get a gate for the top of our stairs The railing is metal (who freaking makes the railing metal?) and we had to get some heavy duty tools to get the mounting hardware onto the metal. Then we had to build this plexi glass shield for the bottom of the mounting hardware to go on We have a metal gate similar to some of the others posted. It's a Kolcraft. Easy to use and sturdy.
