Reaction to hair dye?
I've gotten partial highlights in my hair for many years, but just recently had my hair colored for the first time. Ever since then, the back of my head has been super itchy. Anyone else ever experience anything like this? Do hair dressers usually use more than one brand of dye - can I ask to switch to a different brand? Do you think that could make a difference? I'm not sure what else to do. I love the way my hair looks but the itchiness is so annoying!
Thanks!

Reaction to hair dye?
I have itchiness on the back of my head that turned out to be excema. If it has been several weeks I don't think it would be a reaction to the dye anymore.

Was your skin flaky and peeling? I've had excema on other parts of my body, and the skin was flaky and peeling. That's not happening on my scalp

No. Not at all. It was just uncontrollably itchy. I thought it was something in the shampoo/conditioner. I would make a change it would stop temporarily and then come back. This went on for years. Finally went to the dermatologist and it turned out to be excema. First she gave me a topical cream and that did not work. Then she gave me a squeeze oinment/gel which worked better. But it still flares up occassionally. For me this has been ongoing for at least the last 10 years and I was always suffering because he wants to be the person who walks around all the time scratching the back of their head. And it was uncontrollable. Now after all those years it it better. When it flares up I use the cream for a couple of days and it dies back down.

I have similiar. I get it all around the edge of my scalp and I get it on my neck. It doesn't flake. Just itches and gets flaming red. I use a cortizone cream when it flares but I don't think it ever really goes away. You just have to learn to control the flares and what triggers it- like diet, stress etc I think when I am taking probiotics it seems much better

So you put the cream on your scalp? Does it make your hair a mess? I've used some OTC creams when I've had excema on other areas, but I can't imagine using it on my head
What probiotic do you take? I'll try that too!

It's hard getting it on my scalp, yes. I use it mainly on my neck when it flares. But for my scalp, if it's flaring bad, I will just rub it in the best I can on a night I am washing my hair. I let it sit for an hour or so, then wash my hair.
I was taking Dr Jarrow's probiotics because of my stomach issues. I found it helped the eczema then read that probiotics can help eczema. I think any probiotic will do. Everyone is different on what probioitc works for them. You can probably start with any drug store one you can find and see how it goes

The dermatologist gave me more of a liquid ointment specifically to use on my scalp and it works so easily. I apply it when my hair is dry and you can not tell I have it on. Does not mess with my hair at all. It's like a thin leave in conditioner consistency.
