Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
Cailen goes in this Friday for his vaccs... Dr. said he may get a fever as a reaction - is this a definite or a maybe?
BTDT moms - what types of reactions did your children get?

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
From what i understand the 2 month shots are usually rough. Paige didnt have a fever, but the spot that they gave her the needle in was extremely sore.
I made the big mistake of not giving her Tylenol when i got home and when she woke up from her nap, she was crying inconsolably. Once the the Tylenol kicked in she did much better.
So here is my advice...make sure you give him Tylenol right after or before. I give Paige Tylenol everytime she gets a shot. It has worked wonders.

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
The worst reaction either of my kids has had was a hard lump at the injection site for a few days and napping more than usual the day of the visit. They've never even had a fever.

It's a maybe.
Reactions from shots for my kids have ranged from no reaction, fever crankiness to screeching.
eta. hard lump at the shot site for a looong time.
Thankfully nothing more severe than that.

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
DD got 4 shots at her 2 month visit.
The only reaction she had was she was really tired-slept through feedings. That's about it, she made up for the feedings when she felt less sleepy.

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
I went to the drug store in the medical building right after she got the shots to buy baby tylenol and it was the best thing we could have done. She liked the oral shot and then screamed after the 4 injections. About an hour after the shots, she was absolutley inconsolable so we gave her the tylenol, it kicked in and she fell asleep and slept for about 7 hours, had a bottle and went right back to sleep for another 5 hours. No reaction to the injection site.
Good Luck, I think it was harder on me than on Taylor

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
DD had her two month shots this Monday.....she got 4 shots plus a oral vaccine (rotovirus)
She thought the oral medicine was yummy but she screamed when they gave her the 4 shots (wouldn't we all)
She cried for like 2 minutes and then she fell asleep...I fed her when we got home and then she slept the rest of the night away....no other reactions. I brought the tylenol to the doctor and gave it to her right after she got her shots....that would be my recommendation

I totally agree! We didn't give DD the tylenol until after the first round and she was miserable. No fever, but her legs were very swollen. Before her second round we gave her some before then some after and she was fine. It really helped.

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
DS was given tylenol right away and again 4 hrs later to avoid any reaction...he was just really sleepy and a bit cranky, otherwise fine.

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
How did it go?
DD never got a reaction to either her 8 week and 4 month vaccines. Ped told us as soon as we get home to give her baby tylenol and I guess it worked like a charm b/c she never had a reaction and remained her happy go lucky self both times.

Same here....Jayden got his shots yesterday. The nurse actually gave him Tylenol before we left the office. He had a slight fever last night and I repeated the Tylenol around 11pm. He woke up this morning without a fever.

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
What shot is everyone talking about that is given orally? Polio? I thought that wasn't recommended anymore, only the injectible polio?

Re: Reactions to shots at 8 wks?
DD would get a slight fever and would be a little off for a few days after shots. She would sleep more too. She didn't have as significant a reaction the last time. She is 11 months.
