reading this PCOS book is scaring the c r a p outta me
I finally picked up a book on PCOS so I could read up on it. It's called "The Savvy Woman's guide to PCOS". You know, some "light bedtime reading". Anyway, it's really scaring the h-e double hockey sticks outta me. I can't believe that my GYN suspected PCOS when I was 20, and slapped me on BCP to eliminate the symptoms. Now, almost 8 years later, I'm TTC and I haven't had AF for 3 months.
I'm so angry about this whole thing (can you tell?). But anyway, reading this book and what PCOS entails, I'm really getting scared. I work myself into a frenzy, thinking, "What if I'm already diabetic and have no idea?".
I've had the whole range of symptoms (beginning with the severe acne when I was 13, and the irregular periods when I was 17). I just can't believe that no one ever thought to tell ME what this was.
My RE appointment isn't until 12/17, and it's not going to come fast enough.

Re: reading this PCOS book is scaring the c r a p outta me
you're not the only one in this boat. My periods became irregular when I was around 19. My mother took me to a zillion gynos and they all said the same thing..."There's no explaination...some women are just not regular." And bam! i was on BCP for over ten years. Sometimes I would go for four months w/o AF. Some months I would have AF more than I didn't (not great for the sex life). I find it facinating that no doctor ever tried to get to the bottom of it. When I would ask about future pregnancy all I was told was that it would take me longer since if I only ovulated four times a year that was only four chances to get pregnant. Drs were good stating the obvious but never getting to the root cause. It has/is very frustrating!

Oh yeah-I have the same issues(not PCOS) but Dr's just ignoring potential issues...It is a travesty what is being done to young girls...Oh bad period-take the pill, irregular cycles-I've got a pill for you. meanwhile the pill is dangerous! I was diagnosed at 31 with a genetic blood clotting disorder that you should NEVER be on the pill for...why would this not be tested for? I think about 30% of the population has this disorder!
This is yet another lesson in why we all have to be our own advocates and question authority!
