Re: Real quick update-

I am glad to hear that you got some answers and I hope the drops help him! Unfortunately this time of year is so horrible on so many people when it comes to allergies. I'm sure an allergist will tell you everything you need to know! Good luck!

I'm glad you got some answers. Allegies could definitely be what is causing him all his problems. A lot of people are allergic to the falling leaves so maybe that is what he is allergic to. Good news is that people grow out of their allergies sometimes so hopefully Ryan will too. Chat Icon

So true-

But my Dr has said something about if I go to the allergist- they'll be able to determine what it is in the air he is allergic to- but usually dont treat a child this young? Anyone know how much truth there is to that statement?

Well I know that I used to go get shots at the allergist weekly, then monthly later on to build up an immunity to the allergens rather than meds and when I went there were lots of young kids that were brought in for shots, but I don't know at what age they start them. He may have meant that they won't medicate him with an antihistamine at his age but he might be able to do the shots b/c all they are is the allergen itself, i.e. pet dander, pollen etc. They are very quick not any more painful than an injection at the ped, less so in fact b/c it doesn't have to go so deep.

Just wanted to let you know that I work at a ped's office, and we refer to Dr. Cossari all the time. He has a wonderful reputation.

I hope Ryan's feeling better soon! At least if you find out what he is allergic to, you'll know for when they are able to give him something for it and you won't have to go through this again. Chat Icon for having to go through that rough visit too. Chat Icon

I took Ryan back to the Dr today- since I was concerned about his eye-

The DR looked at it- and immediately said he wanted him seen by a pedicatric optomitrist-
When the receptionist called to set up my apt.- they told me to come in right then and there...

So off I went to Dr.Cosari's office (supposedly the best ped. Opt on LI) Ryan really enjoyed the begining of his visit- when he got to look at all different sesame street glowing characters, watching a big screen, and several different animals light up and dance..

However the 2nd part of the visit was sooo hard for him and myself... The had to hold him down- and put all different kinds of drops in, and look at his eyes under a black light (totally freaky his eyes were neon green and orange) Both him and I cried throughout that part of the visitChat Icon

Anyways- it looks like Ryan is allergic to something in the air- also he thought he might have a viral infection in there as well... I think the term he used was Vernal Conjuctivitis... He told me to plan on seeing him every year around this time

So now we have new very $$$ drops that have a steroid in them..this should take care of it- if it gets worse or dosent go away- we are to be seen right away...

Of course this leaves me with the question of- Is this thing in the air that he is allergic to, the cause of everything thats going on w/ him lately? My ped and I discussed this and he thinks its def. a possibility and will give me a referral to see an allergist BUT did say that seeing an allergist will determine what it is in the air that he is allergic to- BUT they prob wont treat it, because he is so young...Chat Icon

Just pray these drops do the trick and that all this craziness goes away- I just feel so bad for my baby!!

Not true - My allergist treats DD's airborne allergies. We treat her food allergies by avoidance.
