I agree. We just went there in February for 5 days, and with airfare we paid around $2600...

Iberostar Punta Cana (They have another one so make sure to check the Punta Cana one only because it was recently redone).
One of the best deals. Great resort!

Excellence is actually one of the MOST expensive AI resorts in PC. It's cheaper relative to resorts in other tropical places, but not "cheap" as you requested.
I like the Palladium resorts.

Re: Really cheap but good all-inclusive in DR?
Jenn - I don't know how much it will cost (in Feb it cost me about $1,200 for just me...), but I stayed at the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana.
If I could do it again, I would stay at the Majestic Colonial (next door). Much better run (from what I saw). And I think the Majestic Colonial was cheaper.......?
ETA: A travel agent recommended the Palladium resort.... I priced it for Jun 29-July 8 and it was $3400 for me and DH. Looked nice!

Re: Really cheap but good all-inclusive in DR?
Iberostar Bavaro -- it's on the same property as the other Iberostar resorts in Punta Cana -- but IMO the Bavaro is the best since all their rooms are Jr. Suites in bungalow style buildings.
We went for 5 days, with airfare it was only about $1800 back in 2008

We love the Paradisus Punta Cana (so much that we joined their vacation club)
Our home resort is the Paradisus Palma Reale which is GORGEOUS, but we prefer the Paradisus Punta Cana for the kids !

I agree as well. I surprised DH for his 30th Bday with a vacation to Excellence and we both loved it. The resort was beautiful and the food was delicious!

We heard great things about Excellence.
I looked at the Trip Advisor ratings and it rates very well.
