Really dumb question about wall a/c units in baby's room
We may be staying in our current complex ( ), if so they only have wall a/c units. As a child of a central a/c installer I have never had a wall unit until we lived here. My question is how would you feel about such a unit in the baby's room? My concern is that they tend to be loud and unlike central units the temperture is not as well controlled. Plus with a central unit if it's too hot/cold I feel it's easier for mommy and daddy to pick up on that and adjust the temperature accordingly. What do you think?

i too have a wall AC bc we live in a co-op. Personally i have no issues w/ it. There were wall ACs way before central air for most homes when we all grew up and we are all fine

Re: Really dumb question about wall a/c units in baby's room
we only have wall ac's in our apartment.
the newer ones can shut off once a certain temp is reached and that is the kind we will be using in emma's room.
the newer ones are also MUCH quieter than the ones you may be familiar with... (dave sells them - so i know all about them).
it's very important that you get the right BTU unit for the SIZE of your space....so you're not using too strong an AC for too small a space!

Re: Really dumb question about wall a/c units in baby's room
i think if the baby doesnt know anything else the noise wont make a difference.. as far as the temp get a room thermometer so you can try and monitor it..
we live in an apartment upstairs from my parents who have central AC in their home.. BUT the thing is.. its extremely warm up here because theres only one zone. so its freezing downstairs and hot upstairs... So we have a unit in our window.. and the baby is in our room.. im not so much worried about the noise just making sure its not too cold.

The white noise might be soothing for the baby as well!

Honestly they say the best thing is a ceiling or large fan for the baby's room - it was proven to reduce SIDS so I would get one of those and use it instead b/c it circulates the air better than a wall a/c unit.

Re: Really dumb question about wall a/c units in baby's room
Ok, so if we do stay here and they give us a unit w/ an older unit (happened in this place), we will ask that the unit be replaced prior to move in? The unit they replaced our bedroom unit with does not shut off when it reaches temp, but it just runs the fan constantly, which is probably a good thing.
I think it's our best bet...although I hate, hate, hate our complex with a passion. I was so looking forward to getting out of here. Oh well

Re: Really dumb question about wall a/c units in baby's room
i had a summer baby and only have wall units. there's no problem with noise or temp regulation at all. you may not know the exact temp, but it's very easy to figure out if it's too cold or too hot.
i only used on the hottest days and used fans most of the summer.
