really generous gift from relative q
got a pretty big check from a relative for a special occasion. i almost fell off my chair.
planning on using it for a special outing, here's my question. if i post photos on fb do i thank the relative? it could be awkward because other relatives may be like HUH why didn't I get ____. but i wouldn't want to not acknowledge it publicly. i am also sending a written thank you.
advice needed thanks

I nice thank you note and a gift from your trip is appropriate. There's no reason to thank the person publicly on FB, especially because you know it could cause friction.

Yes, send them a heartfelt note, then maybe get them a little something from your trip. (are you using it for a trip?) Don't mention it on FB

thanks all!
we're deciding between an overnight 1-2 days or a very fancy dinner we'd never pay for ourselves

Some things are meant to be private. I hate FB for the sole reason that nothing stays private. I would not thank the relative publically, rather sent them a nice thank you card, maybe adding a note about what you plan to do with the gift.

No I would not thank them on Facebook. It would be seen as gloating. Send a thank you and maybe treat them to dinner

I def would not mention it on facebook-- that seems like trouble! A personal thank you is the way to go.

I agree with the crowd. I would not post on FB anything about the trip or the meal or the thank you. Instead, I would just write a really heartfelt letter to the gift giver. If you go on vacation a special souvenir would be appropriate to give them.

Don't put it on fb! That's just opening up a can of worms for them. Are these older people? Go visit if you can and thank them personally. I'm sure they'd appreciate you making time for them.
