What do they do? Make up a stack of those notes and have them handy for just such an altercation?
It's not a hand written note and they had tape?
You read my mind. I'm sure they keep a stack in their car or something. It's a lot of effort, no?
If we had that Latin King poster still here, she could help us.
I think calling the police & alerting the home security is the way to go. I can't imagine a gang would really warn their target.. but I don't know.

I would've recommended calling the police as well, so I'm glad to hear that's what you already have in mind. They may not be able to "do" much, but you never know - maybe they have a gang task force that would welcome information like that, or maybe they can up their patrols in the area for the next few days just in case they see anything suspicious or so that they're prepared to respond quickly if someone in the area were to call 911.
My guess is that the guys were out looking for a fight and left the note trying to intimidate your DH, but their note didn't threaten any future action, so maybe that's a good thing??? Let's hope they get distracted and find something else to do.

DH called the police and the person he spoke to said that since we don't have the license plates, they can't do anything to identify the person...
He said to be on the lookout for the guy's car and take down the plates and we can go from there.
I'm hoping it was just a scare tactic - but it seems like they went through a lot of trouble to do so, no? They had to find a way into our garage in the first place...

How did they get the note in the garage if it's a locked garage? that would REALLY concern me as well.
i think this is a TERRIBLE situation!! I also think that if DH won't go to the police then the obligation falls, unfortunately, on your shoulders. I think it's then your responsibility to do what you can to keep your family save... and if reporting it yourself is the way to do it then so be it. I would take the note right to the police station and explain the incident to them.
To be honest... these people are clearly looking for trouble and going out of their way to find it. They appear like they are out to get someone or something. So I think ALL of you should be on HIGH alert!!!!! And I DEF 1000000% suggest to REPORT THIS INCIDENT!!!!

In my mind... this guy and his friends waited for DH to come back out to the car, but he never did - so they went home (which could be nearby) and printed out this note and brought it and taped it to the car???
I too pictured them waiting, leaving and coming back with the note.
I get why people would try to come up with the less scary situation solutions... but at times I just don't think it's beneficial to ease your mind into not taking appropriate precautionary actions. I'd take it as a serious threat and act accordingly.

oh man, that is really scary...
i'm glad you called the police...
i know this sounds silly and some people might not agree with it but i would start carrying mase (both you and DH) just in case something happens and you are approached...at least you'd have some kind of defense...i doubt anything else will happen, they probably just like scaring people but you never know...

This kind of stuff really scares me...I think if this were my DH, I'd probably convince him to get a gun...  and I'm totally against guns...but he's also got your child to worry about.

WOW.
could you call your apartment complex ?
I bet they have cameras in that parking complex. maybe they can get a plate ?
Perhaps they can put security out ?
Sooo scary.
Hopefully it's just kids being stupid.
I cant imagine a gang leaving a typed note.
Had the cops heard of these notes before ?

i just thought of something else...
maybe you can report it to the newspaper or the news - if they did a story on it, it might bring awareness to your neighborhood and other victims might come foward as well...if people know they are doing this and the community is aware and on the lookout, it might cause the gang to stop...kwim?
or do you think that would backfire and cause them to retaliate against you? i do know that i've seen people on the news and newspaper when things like this happen and that is what made me think of it...

The other thing that bugs me is that you mentioned DH was with his nephew. I don't know how old his nephew is but the fact that they would follow someone who had a kid in the car, etc. just shows the type of people they are!

Oh God Hayley how frightening  Even though this is 'par for the course'-bs with gangs you have every right to be worried.
I'm reasonably sure it's just their M.O. - the printout is really ODD to me and I would think they just drive around with those notes and stick 'em on people's cars. But the cops, specifically the gang task force, would probably be very aware if that is the case.
What about bringing the note IN to the police precinct??? Maybe there are fingerprints on it -- if the guy's in the system already perhaps they can find him???
I'm also hoping our resident law enforcement Queen (Gabi!!!) sees this and has some tips for you
I know Dh will be UBER-alert this week, hopefully the creeps were just being a-holes and this blows over. But definitely make your complex security aware of the situtation it freaks me out that they got into a locked garage.

ITA I just got chills reading this. There are a lot of really insane people out there. Definitely put in a call. Also if you have security at your apartment complex let them know as well.
