Recently Ava has developed a fear of loud noises....
Has this happened to anyone else's 2 year old? She was never bothered by anything, but in the last month or two, she runs screaming at the top of her lungs if I run the vacuum or if I'm drilling. I'm starting to worry that there's something wrong with her, that's how upset she gets.  Any advice on what I should do?

yes, around 18 mos though, he suddenly became very afraid of the lawn mower, vaccuum. hair dryer etc. I don't know if anything I did got him through it, but I just tried to reassure him as best I could without making to much of a big deal about it. He is pretty much over it, still has to point out that there is noise, but he doesn't cry or get upset anymore.

This happened with my nephew around the same age. He all of a sudden became petrified of the windshield wipers. He would scream and turn his head so he couldn't see them. It was so odd...it lasted a few months from what I can remember.

My son went through this bad. When he was 2 we were having work done to the house and he was hysterical from the hammering - so bad that I had to send him to my mother-in-laws.
Along with that was fireworks. If he even heard a little firecracker he freaked out worse than my dog.
Now he is over all of it. I think it stopped when he was around 5.

Ellie has always been this way. Afraid of the lawn mower, vacuum, blow dryer, etc. I'm afraid I'm not much help though b/c we haven't found a solution, I just try to explain and reassure her.

I think most of us can remember my fireworks story when Damien was 2 1/2 and at the Ducks game on the 4th of July when during the fireworks he started yelling f*cking azzhole at the top of his lungs for all to hear  So yes we went through that too Jaidy is starting it now too at 20 months. She covers her ears and says loud, loud, loud. Damien still gets upset when he hears certain loud sounds. We were on 110 when those jets were flying from 56th and both of them started crying in the car.

Julia is afraid of noises too, if she hears something she's not use to she says"Mommy what's that noise"? and I will tell her its just the landscapers or a loud plane. She HATES thunder and freaks out every time we have a storm. I'm sure its totally normal.

I'm not a parent yet but what if you got her one of those FIsher Price toy vacuums (they kind of have the balls that pop inside) - then she can vaccuum with you?

OMG that was D too. The girl has only now at 3 1/2 years of age stopped being afraid of vacuums. She was afraid of airplanes too and living in Lake Ronkonkoma that was going to be a problem but she is over it now.
