Recessed Lighting
Does anyone have an idea on approx how much it would cost to do recessed lighting throughout my house? I have 9 rooms that require it. What are some of the decisions/options you have with recessed lighting? We like the high hat look. Thanks so much.

Re: Recessed Lighting
I had six recessed lights put in my kitchen for about $700 installed. I probably paid too much... but I had him do some other work that was very difficult... but he didn't charge me as much. So it worked out in the end.
If someone knows a guy thats installs these for cheap... let me know.

Re: Recessed Lighting
Thanks. So far, I was quoted anywhere from $100-175 per high hat (includes high hat and installation)
I have to go to a lighting warehouse and see if I can understand the difference between high hats! Does anyone know? Is it the bulb or the actual high hat that makes a difference in lighting the room? Should I go 4 or 6 per room? TIA...

There are different high hats for different types of light. For example, because I have a vaulted ceiling in my kitchen I had to go with a different type than my livingroom. My kitchen ones have "eyelids" to direct the light either towards the cabinets or straight down as the light is installed on a slant.
ETA: How many sq. feet is the room? Is there anything like a fireplace that you would like to accent? Will you also have reading lamps in the room. Especially if you go with 6, I highly recommend they install them on a dimmer. Dommer switches are cheap and you can really control the ambience of a room.

Re: Recessed Lighting
Whether you go with 4 or 6 depends on the size of the room. I also agree with Tahweezah's recommendation. They should be on dimmer switches. $100 - $175 sounds about right. That is what my dad (electrician) charges.
