Not on LI, but just over the Queens border on Northern Blvd....just east of Little Neck Parkway, Kebob House. They have THE best middle Eastern food (and this is coming from someone who can make it at home). A few doors down going east is a French Restaurant (can't remember the name, it's literally on the same block). Delish! Also down by the corner of Douglaston Parkway is a yummy Thai place and of course Giardinos right around the corner for Italian. That whole area is covered in food....you could eat somewhere different every night for a month.
Also Persian Grill in Roslyn Heights is pretty good (I'm just not a big fan of their rice, but everything else is good)
