Recommend your bank...
I have to switch banks
1) Mine is not located anywhere near me
2) After 4 years of my business they have started charging me $10 per month for a checking account. Why? Because my employer does not offer direct deposit!!! This is MY fault? I understand they figure it will ensure that there will be money in the account (I guess ). However, I should not be penalized for something I have no control over. I am stressed out about money to begin with right now and do not need to be giving my money away to anyone.
If you have a good bank that is located in eastern suffolk, please recommend. Thanks!

We were with a different bank who I LOVED and now, all of a sudden, they start charging fees..Ummmm yeah..Byebye.

Wamu--free checking has no minimum balance requirements, no direct deposit requirements, free checks, and one free overdraft fee waiver per year--and my DH is the manager so easy to complain!
Commerce just got bought, so watch for more fees. Plus I believe they charge if you don't keep a minimum balance.

By TD Banknorth, not much is going to change.
Actually, we love Commerce because there is NO minimum balance. We had a problem where someone stole DH's debit card and I spoke to a human being at 10pm on a Sunday night who helped me.

Charon is right! DH and I learned that lesson! Commerce Does charge fees now! We left!
Same thing happened to my dad too.
If your account falls under a certain $ amount, Surprise,,,Your charged.
We were pizzed, we love Commerce, but not worth being charged.

I'm in western suffolk, but check Commerce online to see if there is a branch near you. They are great, open 7 days a week, online banking, no atm fees (we're each allowed like 10 atm transactions a month for free and we never use that many), the have late hours till around 7. It's a great bank all around, we've been very happy with them. We had Wamu before and hated them, we had overdraft protection on our account (we were grandfathered into it) and they would constantly screw it up by taking money when we had funds (long story, but if we had under 50 or 100 whatever it was they would take from overdraft). We haven't had any problems with Commerce and have been using them for a couple of years now.

Yep, they started charging about 6 months ago. DH has to keep eyes on all the competitors and I remember when he came home and told me about Commerce charging fees.

Citibank online...nice esavings interest rates...not as customer service-y, but it depends what you are looking for..they are fine for our needs...

Commerce was bought by TD Bank North... BUT they will still run Commerce as Commerce and TD bank as TD bank. Just our top people will answer to TD banks CEO.
Commerce charges fees after 1 year if your account drops below 100.00. We are open 7 days a week and have tellers there 5 days a week 7:30 am till 8 PM. Plus they have gift cards which they don't charge fees for. They need to make money somewhere.
Even with these fees my branch (Oceanside) Opens 500 Checking accounts a month. I won't talk about other banks even though I could cause thats not my thing
