Recommend your heart rate monitor!

As a spinoff to the other thread...please recommend your heart rate monitor. I'm looking for something thin and not too clunky. I see a lot on Amazon, but have no clue what to choose! TIA!

I'm looking for one too. My friend uses the Adidas Micoach and it has a ton of programs to lose weight, gain endurance, speed, etc. I was thinking of getting it. Not sure if it was better than using a Garmen watch or not.

I have the Polar 300X with the S-1 foot pod, heart rate monitor, watch, and GPS.

The watch has all the features I need (stop watch, pace, distance, heart rate, target zone indicator, etc) Full List of Features

I have the WearLink®+ transmitter heart rate monitor. I like it because it is a fabric material which contours to your body.

If you are thinking about getting the GPS with this watch - DON'T! The foot pod works so much better.

Polar RS100

It's pretty basic, but not the most basic they sell. I can't upload my stats to their website so I just use an excel spreadsheet to track my progress.

I also have the Wearlink (it comes with the monitor) and although I didn't quite believe it when people said you don't really notice it when it's on, it's true.

I wish they were more stylish too, but in the end, it works and I'm only wearing it to the gym. Chat Icon

Thanks for the recommendations!

So do you wear the chest strap every time you go to the gym? During classes? Is it easy to run with the chest strap on?

It is easy to run with. I barely even notice it. I wear it most days. It helps me keep my heart rate within the range I want. During workouts, I try to keep it 85-90% and during easy runs, I try to keep it 70-80%.

Re: Recommend your heart rate monitor!

I had a very basic polar heart rate monitor...it was fantastic. I wore it when I took spin class and more importantly when I instructed spin classes to make sure I was in the range I wanted to be in. I also wore it during runs and during weight training as well. The strap wasnt a problem at all!

Re: Recommend your heart rate monitor!

I also wear it at random times just to see what my heart is doing like when I'm doing yardwork or if I bring the dogs to the beach. I found unless it's very hot and humid, I'm not getting my HR into the zone doing just yardwork but walking on a beach for long distances, I am!

Eta - you have to wear the strap in order to get a reading. You can't choose to leave it off, or it will sense your HR as 0. Chat Icon

Jean I have the Polar FT7. YOu can get it on amazon for $78. I really should use it more when I run but I use it mostly for spin class! You forget you have the strap on!

Re: Recommend your heart rate monitor!

My cardio workouts last from 30 to 45 minutes, 3 times a week. Is it worth it for me to get a monitor?
