Re: Recommend your Pet insurance
I just got this information from my Vet about VPI pet insurance that is the one they recommend and they cover a lot and pay out pretty fast.

Re: Recommend your Pet insurance
I have VPI.
I pay about $32 a month for the highest coverage.
I am very happy with them, and we've used them for 4 years now.

Re: Recommend your Pet insurance
I looked into the one Petco Offers...Called Petcare its not to be used at petco, you can use it anywhere and it seemed like they paid out a LOT and was a little cheaper then VPI.
When I looked at vpi they only paid like $8-$9( for some services?
maybe someone can tell ya more about vpi.

Re: Recommend your Pet insurance
OK, I looked more up on VPI and I was wrong about the payouts...but Im confused.
lets say they have a chronic condition..like my cat has hyperthyroid. The max benefit lifetime for testing for that disorder is $268. She needs $120 lab tests every 6 months or sooner. That means Im paying a lot more then Im getting back.
I'm so confused on this all.

Re: Recommend your Pet insurance
can anyone give examples though of how it pays out? How much they got back on a visit etc so we can see how its worth the cost?
TIA ( and sorry Jenn for hijacking your thread!)

I wish I could help explain everything to you, but my boyfriend really takes care of everything, so I don't really know much. The past couple of years, we havn't really needed to use the insurance (except for heartworm meds, and a checkup), but I we did get a big reimbursement from them when Austin was sick in the hospital a few yrs ago. Basically, that is the reason that we still have the insurance. If something major happens (ie:surgery), at least we know that we still have the coverage and we will get paid back.

i was interested in this tooo Donna
this was kinda the reason why i never bothered to get it before
i didn't see that much of a benefit in the bill
and with paying something like 32 a month i would hope that i would see some differences

Re: Recommend your Pet insurance
I have Petcare Ins from Petco. 70% coverage and I pay $24 a month. I just got back $400 on a $700 ear surgery. My VPI was up to $50 a month because a bulldog is one of their (VPI) more needy breeds???? I guess because of skin/allergy conditions?? Petcare has been great. I personally found VPI's preventative/routine care addition to be a waste of money. I have a poorly bred purebreed with alot of problems so I have tested the ins's out to the max.

Re: Recommend your Pet insurance
We use VPI for our cat.
If you goto this link, you can download all of the payment schedules
VPI Payment amounts
By looking at the payment schedules, we figured out that it was not worth it to get the routine care insurance. (yearly visit, shots, etc.)
We have just the standard plan, which would cover anything besides checkups and vaccinations. The price of getting the additional routine care would be the same as just paying it out directly.
After my cat did not eat for 4 or 5 days and we had to bring her to the vet for $1,000.00 worth of tests to find out nothing, we figured it is worth it.
We haven't used it yet, thank god. *knock on wood* But I don't regret having it. I'd rather pay a little bit each month, and never have to use it; or god forbid use it and get something back rather than nothing.

I agree - the amount of additional money you pay to have the routine care added onto your plan is either equal to, or more than what you would pay if you went directly to your vet and didn't get any 'rebates'.
