Recommendation on breast pump
For those that pumped, do you recommend the Medela pump in style advanced or the Hygeia Q? Thanks!

Re: Recommendation on breast pump
I've only ever used the pump in style, but I really liked it and it's pretty popular. It got the job done.

I used this and the madela hospital model... I found no difference - in style works well for me.

Re: Recommendation on breast pump
I have both of them and I like them both, but I like the Hygeia slightly more. The Hygeia has separate controls for suction and speed. Medela only allows you to control suction. The Hygeia is a closed system and Medela is not. That means that there's always condensation in the Medela tubes and for some reason that really bugs me. Both of them do a good job at getting the milk out and that's really the bottom line though.

You can see if the hygeia parts work with the medela. I posted today that I tried ameda parts with my pis and it worked great. The ameda pieces make the pis a closed system.

Recommendation on breast pump
I got the medela pump in style. I really liked it, it gets the job done, about after 5 days of use it started to make a weird noise and had no suction. I called customer service, she went thru some troubleshooting with me. None of which worked. They shipped me a brand new one overnight..it was on my doorstep the next morning at 10am.

Recommendation on breast pump
The Hygeia pump is a closed system- no contamination can get into the pump at all. It is also approved for multiple users so you could donate the pump or sell it when you are finished with it. I like my hygeia pump. I was not comfortable using a pump with an Open system Like the medela pumps because there is a risk that milk can get into the pump- also I did not want to deal with cleaning the tubing which is not necessary with a closed pump system.

You can use the Hygeia and Medela parts interchangeably, but that doesn't make the medela pump into a closed system. The Ameda parts work in a different way so maybe that does make a closed system, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

Yeah I have no guarantees but the lc at the nicu told me the ameda piece that does the job of medela's membrane does not allow any transfer of air. I've never had any condensation in the tubes using it that way.
