We got a stainless steel refridgerator from Sears. They were having great appliance sales this week.

I agree. I think they might be still be running a special that if you buy three or more appliances you get 20% off if you open a Sears charge card. It may have been a President's Day sale though, not sure if it's still on.
They will also price match ANY price in print. I researched prices over the internet for a few hours one night and saved a lot of money. We bought all 6 of our appliances there last year and literally saved thousands between the credit card deal and the price matching.
You really can negotiate on appliances.
Oh, and PC Richards gives 10% off to union employees. They never advertise that or mention it. I think you just need to show a pay stub or a union card.

Re: recommendations for kitchen appliances
I bought all our stainless appliances at Sears for the kitchen. Consumer's Reports rates them highly! We got the deal where if you buy 4 or more you get 20% off...big savings for us! We have been very happy with the appliances. I believe I heard that the mid-grade appliances are Whirlpool and the higher-end ones are Kitchenaid. Not sure about that but everything Consumers said has been true about the quality.

...this is what we did. LOVE the appliances, but most importantly, love the service.

We did the same. All are Kenmore. Not installed yet but I am sure I will be very happy.
