Recommendations for Services
Our CPSE meeting is next week, and since this is our initial meeting, I'm not really sure what to expect.
DS is in preschool, and will be entering kindergarten in the fall. Since services will still be through the county for the remainder of the school year (and possibly the summer), I need some recommendations. The psychologist who performed the eval recommended a SEIT and a behavioral therapist, along with OT (perhaps in a place with a sensory gym).
Does anyone have any suggestions for these services? I am in the West Babylon area. Any advice for the CPSE meeting would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Recommendations for Services
First off
Going through evals and trying to figure out services is overwhelming.
As a former teacher, and now a mom with a child in EI, I can tell you, the more one on one intense services the child receives the better. Always opt for pull outs rather than push ins, unless it's to work on social type behaviors. When push ins would come in my classrooms, both the therapist and the student would often be distracted. (this is my personal experience).
You may be able to ask for home services in addition to school services. For instance, ABA sessions at home or speech at a center if you can get something that's specialized that the school doesn't offer ...ex. PROMPT therapy.
Sensory Gym -DEFINITELY push for this. Make sure the OT is SIPT certified if it's for working on motor planning/sensory integration.
Many times sensory gyms are linked up with speech so it could be a one stop deal.

Re: Recommendations for Services
We used South Shore Speech in Babylon for our evals, and our speech therapists. I really like them.
We also used Island Therapies in Deer Park in the past for OT services. We had Peggy, she's one of the owners, she was very good. They have a big sensory gym.

Re: Recommendations for Services
Thanks so much for your response! My DS doesn't qualify for speech services, but needs help with his motor skills, as well as sensory, behaviour and socialization issues.
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what all the terminology means - what are ABA sessions? And PROMPT therapy? Is that speech related? What about SIPT certified? Do you have any suggestions for sensory gyms in Suffolk County (West Babylon/Babylon/Islip area)?
Thanks so much for your help!!

Thanks for the suggestions. We don't need speech services, but we do need the OT with the sensory gym, so I'll look into Island Therapies.
