Recovery time after spaying? UPDATE
I just made an appt for my little girl to get spayed . How long is the recovery time usually, how long are they uncomfortable, etc.. Usually?
Reason I ask, I made the appt and exactly a week after, my 5 year old niece is coming from FL and staying with us for 10-days. I want her to be able to play with her and not have me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
Think she will be ok by then or push it up a week?
Update: Thank you for all the advice, I actually moved it up 2-weeks to play it safe
Vet told me, earlier the better so it was up to me.

Re: Recovery time after spaying?
ETA- I just saw you ask if you should push it up a week. If you can, I would.
My girl was up and about in about 2 days. First day very cranky and in pain, by next day, back to herself.
Only thing is they shouldn't run and play too hard due to the healing and stitches.
My girl did have problems healing, she developed a seroma (blood filled sac) at the incision site, mostly from trying to jump. Then she kept licking the area, so we had to put a t-shirt on her (vet doesn't use cones). So those two things set her healing back a bit.
My vet was so cute, and funny, told me by the summer she would be able to wear a BIKINI< LOL. I still say that to my girl...and to my DH about her. We laugh about it.
She can't be rough and tumble (if she ever is) too soon so yes, push it up a week if you can.

Same here.
Dottie was jumping at her little gate w/in 3 days - which had me a nervous wreck. Just make sure her incision is clean and not getting infected.
She should be fine to play with, by the time your niece comes to town. I would just watch her, that's all.

I just made an appt for my little girl to get spayed .
I don't know about healing time for females but I just wanted to say, try not to feel too bad about doing this. Having your dog spayed is the best thing for her health.
You're being a good mom...

I agree, just nervous of course. Have to leave her over night, etc..
I know it's the right thing and I would never think not to do it, just being a nervous mommy

Re: Recovery time after spaying?
I hear ya! She'll be ok. Can you send her in with a special blanket or something so that she'll have a little bit of "home" with her?

Yeah prob one of mine or DH's socks and she will be fine lol. I asked my vet if Pyxie could have something to make her feel "at home" and they let me bring in DH slipper & her fav toy.
As for the healing female dogs need a more conservative healing time, so as long as there is no risk of her going into heat unnecessarily, I would push the appointment back.
