Recs for VBAC Friendly OBs that Work with High Risk/Peris
I'm not preg or TTC but when we are ready for #2 I plan to switch OBs. Since I am way overdue for an annual I figure maybe I'll start looking now.
I would prefer to be associated with LIJ or NSUH since I live 5 minutes from both, but also would consider NUMC since they have a lower CS rate and higher VBAC rates. I also heard they are opening a new birth center soon although I am not sure when that actually is.
Anyway I am looking for an OB that is very VBAC friendly and supportive. Would love to see a midwife but I doubt I will be low risk enough - I had a really complicated fertility history and delivered my DD at 33w due to severe pre-e and HELLP as well as had placenta accreta. I don't think I qualify for the "normal" pregnancy care that a midwife would provide. So I am looking for an OB that works with a good high risk specialist or peri. I would LOVE a high risk OB that delivered but was also VBAC friendly (if that exists - it sounds like an oxymoron almost in NY ).
Anyway my last Ob was Goldstein out of LIJ, liked him but not sure he is super VBAC friendly. My delivery was done by Scarantino, I liked him, he saved my uterus as I was pretty close to a hysterectomy but I haven't seen him since then. Heard great things about Cohen and he was there during my CS and recovery as well. He might be one of my top choices since I have heard he is VBAC friendly, just not sure how or who he works with in regards to high-risk.
Please share your experiences with either VBAC or high risk pregnancies, and preferably both if there is anyone out there who is/was in a similar boat. I will prob xpost to parenting as well. Also FM if you dont want to share in the post. Thanks! Wishing you all pregnancies and deliveries that were WAY less eventful than mine was

Re: Recs for VBAC Friendly OBs that Work with High Risk/Peris
Dr Jeanne Rohan in Great Neck is VBAC friendly and she delivers at NS Manhasset. Right across the hall is Maternal Fetal Medicine that they work with. I have used Dr Pozharny, but Dr Vohra delivered DS (when they did deliveries back in 04). I had an emergency csection, but when I saw MFM for a consult prior to doing a fresh IVF cycle in 2011 Dr Pozharny was pushing VBAC until she saw my report from my last csection (07) my scar tissue is a hot mess.
Only reason I didn't use Dr Jeanne Rohan this pregnancy is when I was released(from my RE) she had just gone on maternity leave I've worked with her and known her from her days at Winthrop so I didn't want to see anyone else there.

You are really high risk, even more so if you are over 35.
I would choose based on best possible surgeon and ICU (for you and baby). I'd even consider traveling to NYC (Columbia).
This being said, this is just by reading your post. Get an OB opinion...

Not the hospitals you are looking for and I wouldn't say super vbac friendly (won't let you go past your due date) but I see dr caffaro/Rosenberg at university plaza ob/gyn and dr Kofinas. Dr caffaro did give me some pitocin to keep my labor progressing once I got the epi. Fm me with any questions. I know we have similar stories in why we wanted a vbac

Just want to add that Dr. Scarantino is definitely vbac friendly - we have already discussed it for me (although i'm not pg yet). Being he handled your delivery and knows your situation already, it might be worthwhile to at least consult with him.

yeah thats why NUMC is in the running - cause they seem to be much more vbac friendly overall than LIJ or NSUH. but i thought that the doctor decides how long you go past your due date - not the hospital. is that incorrect?
i def am considering caffaro/rosenberg with kofinas. my only fear with kofinas is that he is so strict with everything and i am much more laid back and i really prefer a hands off approach as much as possible (which is probably a pipe dream to begin with ). also the fact that he only takes OON hurts cause i will have to pay a higher premium to get OON coverage to begin with so i want to have several options with other dr's who do take regular insurance. but i also know that kofinas is a big placenta expert and being the placenta issues i had with my previous pregnancy, i know he's def someone i want to consult with even if he doesnt end up being my peri/high risk of choice.
thanks for the feedback, i am sure i will have more questions!

oh that is good to know!! over the last 2 years i have always wanted to go see him since he has way more insight into what actually happened during my CS than my hospital records show. i def wonder if i was a memorable case for him - especially since he was just the on call doctor going in to do a CS for someone dx with pre-e and HELLP. we had no clue what he was going to encounter once he opened me up !!
do you know who he works with who is high risk?

Yes the dr would decide that I think. Not sure how much of a role the hospital plays in it. Although I had one extremely negative resident while I was there. She was like there is no way you are going to progress and have a vbac! You have seen her face when she walked in the delivery room on her next shift 24 hours later to help deliver ds.
Good luck ttc!!!!!!!

Recs for VBAC Friendly OBs that Work with High Risk/Peris
I am not pregnant nor TTC yet but i am in a similar situation. I saw Dr. Rosenberg at NS MFM for a pre pregnancy consult. I also need to switch OBs as i now work for the NSLIJHS and it makes more sense for me use their drs for insurance reasons I LOVEDDDD my previous OB that delivered DD #1!! Dr Dolisi but hes winthrop. But my high risk was both winthrop and NSUH. But I did go see dr Rosenberg as another consult to make sure I wanted to stay w/ my previous High risk. Rosenberg soooo awesome. I am not going the vbac route (I dont think) next time BUT he highly recommended Jessica Jacobs and also Seidman and Aronovich. He said they are the BEST for vbac and even more important they will co manage well!

i used to see Jacobs and i wasnt a fan. the wait in her office was over 2 hours every time, even for just an annual. she was nice but when i told her i wasn't ovulating she basically threw clomid at me, told me when to have sex, and sent me on my way with no plans for monitoring or any followup. i never saw her again after that.
i do hear she is very vbac friendly but i dont think i can tolerate a 2+hr wait for an OB unless she's gonna deliver my baby at home LOL. thanks for the recs though. its good to know other people go for consults with OBs cause I sorta feel crazy wanting to like interview several. good luck!

It took me 3 peds interviews to find one I'm very happy with You do what you gotta do! It's important to feel comfortable with who will be managing your care, regardless of what it's for.
