red/green bell peppers...same thing?
I think the two peppers are different,my dh thinks opposite, we have a bet, and I could use some help. One is sweeter (red), and more $$$, HE says they are green but ripened.

Re: red/green bell peppers...same thing?
I just learned this today on my sons pre-k field trip! They are the same thing, green peppers ripen to become red.... The red are sweeter too because they are ripened.

Re: red/green bell peppers...same thing?
hmmmm good question. If you are asking if they taste the same.....then no. Red are much sweeter than Green. I use red peppers in my salad. I use Green for stirfrying meat and for my mexican rice.

Re: red/green bell peppers...same thing?
I found this... I think they are the same thing.
These bell-shaped vegetables are sweet bell peppers in their mature green stage--fully developed, but not ripe. As they ripen on the vine, most bell peppers turn red and become sweeter
Peppers
Sorry you lost the bet... I kmept looking and found this:
Red bell peppers are green bell peppers that have ripened longer and are very sweet.
More Peppers

Re: red/green bell peppers...same thing?
Yes, they are from the same plant. My MIL grows peppers and I had to tend to her garden while she was in Italy. If you do not remove the green pepper from the plant, it will ripen and turn red.
Once it's red, it will fall of the plant by itself

Maybe it's the stage between green and red?

Red is sweeter. I can't have the green it doesn't sit right with me. Also, yellow are sweet too. I hate green.

Re: red/green bell peppers...same thing?
What do you mean they are the same? I purchased green, yellow, and red bell pepper plants from a local nursery. The green pepper plants grew slower at first and now are much larger. The leaves are different also. The green pepper leaves are larger and slightly broader. The red pepper plants produced peppers much faster and take much longer to rippen. The yellow bells were also different, and they turned yellow much faster than the red.
I would not pay up on that bet!
