red raw neck - UPDATE - a fungus amung-us

please help...


under cailen's neck it got horribly red and raw.... DH even put that butt paste on it last night...

he's so chubby, and drool keeps pooling in there, plus formula... i try to keep it dry but hes in daycare all day... what can I do?????

I just noticed Bella's got the same problem the other day I keep putting Aquaphor on it.

The Dr told me to put Balmex on it. So we did that and kept a bib on him to catch the drool and his neck isn't red anymore. Keep it up!

Be careful b/c sometimes food and drool being caught in the folds of the neck can cause a fungus and you'll need an anti-fungal cream.

What about cornstarch? It will soak up the wetness. My ped told me to do it if DD sweats a lot.

Try lubing it with Aquafor. It works for Molly's rashes.

That happened to Madeline and her multiple chins last summer. i used Mexsana- a medicated cornstartch. i found it at BRU. It worked really well.

Julia use to have it bad when she was a baby, I just use to put powder under her neck and she was fine.

I use aquaphor on it all the time. Sometimes its just so hard to get her to hold her neck up so you can get in there. Even when I think I am getting it all, I find there is still more caught up under there!!!

I have discovered I just need to have someone looking over her so she really has to life her neck and look up and I can get right in there

I would also have a talk with the day care teacher. Sounds to me like they aren't changing his bibs enough.

My DS used to get this a lot. I never used any ointments, I just pulled the neck folds apart, washed it, and then blew on it until it dried. I did this several times a day, and the redness cleared up in a few days.

This happened to my DD when she was little. I agree with the other posters, I think treat it like you would a diaper rash (it's pretty much the same thing just a different irritant) and it should go away. It's easy to overlook the skin folds under the chin and it's easy for them to get a rash there with all the drooling and food dripping. Treat it like you would a diaper rash and it should go away soon.

I dont know if it was mentioned but powder is what I put on their neck....helps dry up the drool and other things that get in there.

Lily's doctor told me to use corn starch on it....it's just so tough to get in there!

I used to constantly clean under there and then I would put aquaphor and cornstarch powder

Well ladies, turns out its a fungus

I'm so upset because I'm so good about keeping it clean and dry, but it just got out of control

Cailen had to go to the dr. for another rash (I'll post soon) but she saw his hiney and under his neck and prescribed 2 different creams for them

I thought triple paste was expensive, meantime I had to spend 50 bucks for these 2 creams (1 isnt covered under insurance!)

Did she give him Nystatin? That is what Steven had. It's not about you not keeping him clean! This happens very often when they are teething. You didn't do anything wrong or neglect him in any way!

My son was very very juicy at that age too and got a rash in his "neck roll' dr told me to put Cortaid on it and it cleared up, but he also had Nysatin for his cooly......didnt know I could use that too!

It will get better!
