It's official: On November 8, Reese Witherspoon filed for divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe in Los Angeles Superior Court.


The Academy Award winning actress cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the dissolution of her marriage. Witherspoon, 30 , is asking to terminate the court's ability to award spousal support to Phillippe, 30. Additionally, she’s asking they award both herself and Phillippe joint legal custody of the couple’s two children, Ava, 7, and Deacon, 3. However, she is seeking sole physical custody, granting Phillippe child visitation rights.


Witherspoon lists the date of separation as October 30, 2006, and signed the divorce papers on November 7. She hired famed divorce attorney Robert Kaufman, who in the past has represented Charlie Sheen and Jennifer Aniston.


Within the divorce petition, Witherspoon asks the judge to block any attempt on Phillippe's part to get spousal support and to allow her "exclusive use of the family residence." They do not have a prenup, which means earnings during the marriage will be divided 50/50.


The couple, who met at Reese's 21st birthday party, were married for 7 years and 4 months.
