Reflux babies...anyone have Zantac not work?
My DS is 7months and has been battling reflux since he was born. He is a BIG spitter-upper (I mean constantly throughout the day. We can go through 10 bibs a feeding), and just recently appeared to be in a lot of pain when spitting up. The doctor has him on Zantac. I honestly do not think its doing a thing. He seems to be just as uncomfortable and spitting up just as much.
Has anyone had zantac not work for their LO and switched to another medication that worked better?
I also want to add that we do put rice cereal in every bottle to thicken it and he is currently take 4 bottles a day and 3 meals a day.

I was just talking to a friend about reflux. She said her son took Pepcid.

Zantac is weight sensitive.. The dosage probably needs to be adjusted.. I went through that with my son.. We had to switch to Axid around 6 months because he was spitting the Zantac out.. Tastes horrible.. The axid didn't work as well in my opinion, but it did help...

none of those meds worked for DD. she spit up the same amount (all day long) regardless. I took her off after about 6 weeks of trying diff meds. She is 11 mos and still spits up. Dr said its ok, as long as shes gaining and not in pain.

my son is ow 4, but had reflux terrible as a baby. we had to put him on axid, and he was on nutramigen formula.

Thank you all. I know it is weight sensitive and we just got the amount adjusted 2 weeks ago.  He is also on Nutramigen formula as well. I can definitely deal with the spitting up, as he is gaining weight fine....but I just feel bad that he is in pain. Every time he spits up he makes this horrible face and screams. I just want him to be comfortable. My DD (his triplet sister) also has horrible reflux, but Zantac and rice in each bottle did WONDERS for her. She is such a happy baby now and never spits up anymore. I just was hoping it would work the same for him.

Zantac alone did not work for my daughter. She had to take Prilosec in the morning and Zantac at night....they are two different types of meds and the combo worked.

I have heard Zantac doesn't block all acid receptors..I would ask the doctor to switch to another drug and dosage. sometimes it takes some time to see what works. every baby is different. Marco was not called El Diablo for no reason, till ped upped his dosage and now he is my perfect angel face baby boy  GL Hope they find the magic concoction and he gets some relief asap!

I don't know if zantac works the same way, but my girls are on axid. My ped told me it does not stop them from spitting up, it stops it from burning when they do spit up.

Zantac didnt work for DD so we switched to Axid and it was SO much better.
Nutramigen and Axid were the perfect combo

prevacid worked better for us. Zantac did not do too much and axid was useless. It all depends on the baby. My DC was in pain, it was terrible! Good Luck, hope you find the right combo!

Same situation here - like night and day! We didn't need any special formula either.

zantac alone didnt work, but we started to give her 1/2 tspn of mylanta before each feeding in addition to the zantac twice a day ( she was on the highest dosage but we just started to gradually decrease it) and that seems to have worked

DD wasn't on Zantac but was on Axid. It didn't help much after the first month or so. Switched to Prilosec and have seen much better results. It really is trail and error form these poor babies.
