Refrigerators - top mount or bottom mount?

We're trying to decide between the two for our new fridge.

I've always had top mount so I'd love to hear replies from people who have, or have had, bottom mount.

FYI - if we did the bottom mount, it would be with the french doors

Also, we're not considering the side-by-side doors, that's why there's no option for it.

Re: Refrigerators - top mount or bottom mount?

We just bought a new frig and when I looked at the bottom freezers I felt like they didn't have the room/access to stuff. I feel like I would lose things in the freezer all the time and I would clean it out and have nasty frozen food in the bottom of it.

Re: Refrigerators - top mount or bottom mount?

i LOVE LOVE LOVE freezers on the bottom. i am telling you they are so much more efficient. i have no proof but the fact that my food lasts soooo much longer in them, then in the original kind..
i suggest that.

i hate the french doors though. if you get french doors, make sure they have an 'auto-close' option. not sure what the option is, but one side, if not pushed appropriately, will leave the other side open. that annoys me.

good luck!

my old refirgerator was a top mount and the freezer was never big enough for me and food always migrated to the back of the frig and went bad.

Love my french door/bottom freezer. very rarely do I "lose" any food in the back of the frig

We just purchased a french door/bottom freezer (GE Profile 28.5 cu ft) and love it! I can't believe how much room we have in it, but I also think having the ice maker in the refrigerator as opposed to the freezer gave us a lot more room.

Thank you for your answers! I'm surprised, to be honest, and we will now seriously be looking at bottom mounts.

Chatham Chick - glad to hear you like it so much, it's one of the ones on our list, though the next one down - the height of the 28.5 won't fit into our cabinets.

Re: Refrigerators - top mount or bottom mount?

My next fridge will be a french door bottom mount freezer. I currently have a side by side and hate it. My knee problems make it difficult to squat down to retrieve items from the bottom of the fridge and the bottom of the freezer.

my parents have a bottom freezer and french doors up on top and I LOVE IT! The only thing is they put their island is too close to the freezer so you can't stand in front of it you have to stand on the side to grab things.

If you have kids, you might not want the bottom mount.

I love that my kids can help themselves to things in the refrigerator. Even my 2.5 yo knows how to get in and get a string cheese and his drinks (we leave premade for him)
