?? regarding babies weight at birth...
i've been having growth sonos and my is measuring ridiculously large. at 28 weeks he was in the 76th percentile.. at 30 weeks he was 4 pounds, today at 33 weeks he's measuring 5lbs13oz. we thought maybe i had GD since i failed the 1hr and got sick during the 3hr but i retook the 3hr and actually passed. i know growth sonos aren't really accurate but i was wondering did any of your babies measure really large during pregnancy? if so, did you go early, on time, late and how big was your baby? thanks for any input! i'm really keeping my fingers crossed that this baby comes early!

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
Well, keep in mind that growth sonos can be off +/- 1lb as well.
I think mine was pretty accurate tho, DS weighed 4lbs at 35 weeks and was born 4 weeks later at 6lbs, 11oz.
Also, I don't think 76th percentile is that huge....

32w - 6lbs 4oz off the charts %age wise 36w - 8lbs 5oz
born at 40w exactly at 9lbs 10oz
Docs felt the sonos were pretty accurate

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
I had a sono the day before DS was born -- I was induced for preeclampsia around 36 weeks.
The sono said 7lbs 11oz, he was born the next day and weighed 6lbs 8oz. He was long - 21inches - so the dr. said sometimes that throws it off a little bit.

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
My growth sonos were very accurate. DD was always measuring large.
31wks.... 4.5 lbs 33 wks....5.5 lbs 36 wks....7.5 lbs 38 wks......8.7 lbs
Delivered at 40wks, 4 days ....9lbs, 9 oz
DD was estimated at being over 9lbs, close to 10lbs and they were correct.
I was 4 days late!!

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
A girl at work was told her baby was big all along. Was born on her due date weighing 5lbs3 oz. I was told I was having a 7lbs-8lb baby..she was 10lbs one week late
Moral of the story: I dont think they are that accurate IMO.

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
DS "lost" over 2 lbs in less than a day. He had a growth sono, and was over 8 lbs. That night, DW gave birth, and he was 5lbs, 14oz...
Take the measurements with a grain of salt...

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
DS was measuring large all along but 2 days before I delivered he was estimated to be 7 lbs, 10 oz. He was born at 9 lbs 0 oz. I was pretty shocked, the sonos are not totally accurate. What they told me after he was born was that they based the estimate on the size of the head a lot of the time. Landon had a "small" head for a 9 lb baby so thats why they estimated him smaller.

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
my DS was measuring large my entire pregnancy. I ended up being one day late. When my water broke, that night at the hospital they did yet another sono and said he was 10lbs.
Well, low and behold, he was 8lbs9oz.

DD measured 5 lbs at 32 weeks, at 34 weeks she was already measuring over 7 lbs... and at 38 weeks we were measuring over 8 lbs 6 ounces... DD was born the next day.... at 38 weeks 3 days.. and she was 7 lbs 6 ounces... they can be off... they retested me for gestational diabetes too..and my test was negative again..

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
That doesn't sound that big to me. I have big babies and DD#1 I didn't have GD - she measured in the 90% for most of my pregnancy - she was 9lbs 4oz at 38 weeks when she was born.
This one was measuring 6lbs (95%) at 32 weeks 6 days. They estimate if I make it to my scheduled section she will be about 9lbs.
Keep in mind sonos with an experienced tech are supposed to have an error of +/- 1lb - if you have an inexperienced tech it could be more off than that. Also the bigger you get the more difficult it is to get an accurate reading so earlier sonos and the more frequently you have them might be more accurate than people who only have 1 or 2 very late in pregnancy.

I had several growth sonos also and my doctors were right. They said DS would be between 8-9 lbs. He was 8.9lbs when he was born.

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
My growth sonos were very acurate! DS was born at 8 lbs 11 oz. At my 36 weeks sono he was measuring 7lbs. 2oz. The Dr. said he was gonna be 8lbs + and if I had gone ot 40 weeks he would've been a 9 pounder!!!

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
I had growth sonos every week because I had GD. At my last last sono at just over 38 wks. they told me that my DD was at least 9 1/2lbs and would most likely be over 10lbs. at birth.
My water broke at exactly 39 weeks and she was born by emergency C-section. (they were concerned about her size) Well................she was born at only 8lbs 8oz. and 20 1/4" long. So their measurements were off and she was smaller then they anticipated.
EDIT - She was very low in my pelvis towards the end so accurate head measurements were hard to get.

Re: ?? regarding babies weight at birth...
At 32 weeks my DD was measuring 5lbs 9 oz. At 37 weeks she was measuring 8 lbs. 11 oz. At 38 weeks she measured 7 lbs. 11 oz by a different tech. She was born at 39 weeks and was a scheduled section. She weighed 9 lbs. 5 oz.
