Registry Q - Little things...
Hi ladies - I'm clueless as to the "little" things the baby will use/need or will be helpful to its development early on but I want to put these things on my registry to add some low cost options as well - if you could tell me the things you use that would be very helpful - some questions I have are as to:
Rattles? Crib CD Player? CD's? Teething Ring? Pacifiers (are these ok to uese if bf?) Other kinds of toys - soft toys etc?
Anything else?
Now as to learning DVD's - when does the baby start to watch these and is there an age up until which the baby should NOT watch TV?
Thanks again

Re: Registry Q - Little things...
Well, not sure about necessary, but for us, the CD with white noise (they have it at Babies R Us), was SO helpful. We didn't get it until a couple of months in. Wish we got it sooner.
My son took to some of the baby einsteins early, but not for a few months. His favorites: Baby Neptune, Baby Mozart, and now Baby Wordsworth. I have a few he's not that interested in. But that's just my experience!
OH, and the heartbeat teddy bear, that was very helpful. Also at BRU. Another thing I didn't register for but my sister got for me and we really used it.

I will try to be as helpful as possible, but let me tell you...you will still end up running to BRU for a million little things and will end up with a million teethers because every time you go out, you will pick one up.
rattles. I recommend ones that have a narrow handle for the very beginning. When they first start grasping, they aren't able to hold thick things. I had one like this:
I really dont' think you need a CD player. I had this and DS loved it. It played white noise.
It's good to register for teethers, I suggest ones that are easy to hold. Steven loves the NUK one with the keys on it. But I can't find the picture. It is "keys" on a ring and the keys are teethers.
Pacifiers are ok, I would start with the Soothie one.
I recommend a play mat and really any toys that you can hang from the bars on the mat. In the beginning all they can do is look at them. Steven was always drawn to the baby einstein toys.
Also, I know it's not toys, but register for lots of wash cloths, cloth diapers (to use as burp cloths), towels, A&D (or whatever diaper ointment you choose), q-tips, things like that.

Re: Registry Q - Little things...
crib player, we made an EXCELLENT purchase at bed bath and beyond- it is a sound machine by HOMEDICS that plays the ocean, rainforest....we keep it on rainfall (it sounds like white noise)- its $20 and the best thing we ever bought- she started using it at about 8 weeks, and if i had known about it sooner, i wouldve gotten it sooner...i keep it on by the crib, and it remains on all nite and naps too....
toys and rattles- keep in mind babies only see in black and white until 3 months i think, so put some black and white things on there as well as other(they have stuff that attaches to the car seat and stuff)....anything with mirrors (babies love looking at themselves- they are so vain haha)...there are plenty of low cost little things that attach for your car seat and stroller, and they are good for your baby (stimulation-wise)...
i def couldnt get enough onesies for her...she was a june baby, and thats all she was in the whole summer, a diaper and a carters onsie (they are nice bc they arent plain white, they come in different designs and pinks and blues and stuff)....and those first couple weeks i kept her in those gerber long sleeve front snap shirts with the hand that can cover their hands like mitts- i used those a lot in the beginning....so thats pretty low cost that u can put on there....

Re: Registry Q - Little things...
I also invested in a sound machine. I got ours on-line. It's made by ObusForme and it has 10 different sounds including the all popular "white noise", "heartbeat" and then nature sounds like waterfall and ocean waves. I think it was $45 and it was so worth it! We use it for naps and night sleep as well.
My DD got hooked on Baby Einstein's Mozart DVD. she started watching it at about 3 months and now she's 7 months. It is part of our bedtime routine now. She still loves it. I have others (Beethoven, Old MacDonald's Farm, Monet) but she's not as into them yet.
Rattles and refrigerator teethers are great. You can never have too many. They slobber all over them and drop them everywhere so you'll be forever washing them.
In the beginning, I used a ton of the gowns. It was so easy to change DD with those. They'd be great for a baby due in the Fall.
Pacifiers are a must! You might want to register for a couple of different kinds b/c babies can be picky. Of course, your little one may not like them at all but may just like one kind. It's all a guessing game in the beginning.
Happy Registering!

Re: Registry Q - Little things...
I didn't register for any of those little things, but I got a TON of them anyway. I had more rattles, pacifiers, and teething rings than I knew what to do with. Also receiving blankets, I'd recommend not registering for those either. I got way too many!

Baby washcloths- they are softer than regular.
Lots of onsies.
Socks- they are very easy to loose. I suggest you wash them in a net lingerie bag.
