Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We bought a convertible crib but that was because that was the only kind we could find. We do not intend to ever use it as a bed. We'll use the crib for each baby, and when they outgrow it, they'll get a regular bed.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We wanted a convertible crib originally - but the more research I did on them, I noticed that the side (lower side) was stationary. After testing a few of the cribs, we decided to go with a dropside crib - due to I am only 5'2" and it could get difficult to get the baby in and out of the crib.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We ended up buying a regular crib. Had the crib we liked been a convertible, then so be it, but we would never have converted it into a bed. Odds are we'll buy a new bed or bedroom set when our daughter gets a little older or we can add pieces to the collection from that we purchased for her nursery. (We intentionally went with a more traditional/mature looking set.)

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We went back and forth on this a dozen or so times. We wanted the lifetime crib but the fact that you couldn't drop down the sides really bugged us. We are neither tall nor short people but were thinking forward a year+ and thinking when the mattress is at the lowest position and I have a sleeping toddler in my arms how in the hell am I going to get him down without waking him? Then we walked into a store and learned about a specific crib that kinda has the best of both worlds
this is the crib we are getting. Its a lifetime crib but also has a piano hinge that enables you to drop down the side for easy access. At first I was nervous that fingers could get caught but we stuck our fingers in TRYING to get them caught and they didn't once pinch. Then we were worried that the access still wasn't enough so we helpd a baby as if he were sleeping and we able to handle it fine.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
i agonized over this...
in the end, even though i'm 5 feet tall we wound up getting the convertible crib. when the mattress is on the lowest setting i will either use a step stool if needed, or just be able to somehow get down without completely tossing her.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We went with a regular crib. We didn't want to have to buy, say 3 convertible cribs, if we had 3 children. We figured we buy one crib, and then each of our children would get a "big boy" or "big girl" bed when they were ready.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
we went with a convertible crib. even though I am 5'3'' i didn't see an issue with the non drop down side thing since by the time they are old enough where the mattress is all the way down, they are able to stand up to be taken out, if she is sleeping and needs to be put down, worse case is a stool or Dh.
The set we bought her is hers forever!!

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We did a regular crib since we wanted our kids close together. We assumed the next would be in the crib as the older one was moved to a regular bed.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We got a regular crib because the convertible cribs didn't have sides that lowered, and I'm fairly short.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
we're getting a convertible crib. i figured it would save us $$ in the end. of course if we have another before he's in a normal bed we'll have to get another crib but we'll cross that when we come to it!

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We got a regular crib. I'm on the shorter side, and my husband has had back surgery, so we thought the drop down side would be easier. Also, we didn't find out what we were having, but wanted a white crib - to go with other furniture - and figured if it was a boy, he wouldn't want white furniture - in my opinion for a full size bed, white is more for a girl, but doesn't matter so much for a baby. We also want to have more then 1 baby, and relatively close together........

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
I went yesterday with my MIL and she bought us a regular crib. We didn't like the ones where the side didn't come down. We figured I wouldn't need a convertible crib, because if I have more babies they can use the crib. When the time comes for a regular bed, we'll just buy one.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We have a convertible which goes from a crib to a toddler bed but that's it. After that, we'll get her a twin size bed.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
We got a regular crib. There were a few factors that went into the decision. First, I am only 5 feet and I too was afraid of the side not going down. Also, we figured that once the baby would outgrow the crib and toddler bed, that the bedroom would be too small to accommodate a full size bed and we would need to use a twin instead, so we opted not to get the convertible. Also, we will want to use the crib for our next baby as well.

We did the same. DH is 6'1" and I am 5'7" so the drop down thing was not an issue for us.

Re: "regular" crib v. convertible crib
Regular. We both seemed to like the look better anyhow and we wanted a drop side to avoid extra bending and lifting.
