Regular primer vs. paint with primer in it?
One room is orange (think, Mets orange) and another is lavendar. Changing both to a light, creamy yellow.
I should go with regular primer, then have it painted, right?
I'd love to skip a step and use the paint with primer in it, but is it possible with such rich colors (especially the orange), when the new color will be drastically lighter?

I think you should probably prime.
I used the Behr paint /w primer for my walk in closet. It was an almost white, changign to a darker beigy color. It worked fine, as far as adhering to the walls. The color looks a little off form what it looked like on the can though; it's peachier. I don't know if that is because of lack of primer, but I wouldn't chacne it in a real room, especially going over orange.

Depending on the shade of lavender I think you might be ok using a paint/primer combo paint. I'd test out a small area first (maybe a part that will be covered by furniture) and see how it looks when it dries.
However, I think you're def. going to have to do a seperate primer for the Mets orange color.
DH and I are painting our burgendy dining room another shade of burgendy and were told that when there's a dark color on the wall to start with, even if you're covering with another dark color, you have to prime seperately.

Thanks, guys. I was hoping to skip the step but I think it falls under the category of - doing a little extra legwork now will pay off in the longrun.
