Regular vs. digital OPKs (Update)

For the past two months I used digital OPKs and got very clear results when used as directed. HOWEVER they are signifcantly more expensive and in the interest of saving money, this month, I opted to use a standard OPK.

My cycle had been 30 days after which I used a digital and got positive results on day 17 two months in a row.

This month it was 31 days and starting at day 13 (as directed on the box), I tested with the regular OPK. It is now Day 19 and I am still getting negative results.

Did anyone ever switch back and forth or prefer one type of test over the other? I have been off the pill long enough to have regulated cycles. Perhaps the stress of testing is thrusting my ovulation later in the month.

This is probably why I never should have used anything and just BD. I feel like I am going nuts. Sorry for the cranky vent.

UPDATE:
OK I came to the conclusion that I missed my surge somehow. Either that or it came early and the very first test I took was actually positive though on day 13, it is highly unlikely given the number of days in my cycle.

I have not used the digital one yet, but I am going to switch. I have been detecting the LH surge using the standard ones, but the line is hard to decifer at times and sometimes I have to check it more than once to know exactly what I am seeing - so I think it evens out.....and I have heard, just what you said, that the digital is much better.

I think there is a $10 difference in cost....

Re: Regular vs. digital OPKs

The digital one I bought was 30 something dollars for 7 tests. The standard one was about 16 and change. Im thinking if the regular ones were so easy to use there would be no need for digital. Then I think about how many ladies here use digital devices to confirm pregnancies initially detected by a regular HPT. It is all too confusing and just flat out agitating.

i have never tried the digital opk, but have switched around trying different brands of the regular opks. at times have gotten conflicting results from different brands on the very same day! Chat Icon Chat Icon

i think the bottom line is, different tests have different degrees of sensitivity. they are not all as sensitive as they say they are... perhaps the digital opks are more sensitive, and the regular ones are not picking up your surge.

i'm really sorry you're having this issue... i totally hear you about how frustrating this whole process isChat Icon

Re: Regular vs. digital OPKs

I actually had gone to the dollar store and bought 15 tests back in Sept. They worked perfect for me. I am also very intune with my body so I knew around when I was ovulating and when to test. But I always got two very clear lines. I actually have a bunch left over now. For a dollar you can't go wrong!

Re: Regular vs. digital OPKs

Ok I am reading a few things that say the regular ones are not without fault and that if you are irregular you run the risk of innacurate readings. This should make me feel better but I feel like I wasted time. Eh. It is what it is.

Re: Regular vs. digital OPKs

I used the "regular" clearvue OPK. It worked for me. It was about $19 for 7.

In regards to HPT, I use the regular one but after reading an article about line bleeding, I bought the digital HPT. I guess it was really for peace of mind.
