Relief!!! Come in and share my happiness...
2010 is half over and frankly, I'm perfectly okay with erasing the first 5 months of the year from my memory forever... with this latest news I just may be able to.
Back in February my ob called me and told me that my blood work (AFP maybe?) showed my DS had an elevated risk for spina bifida. Fast forward to his birth a couple of weeks ago, the pediatrician at the hospital noticed a sacral dimple at the base of his spine and ordered an ultrasound to check it out, but unfortunately the ultrasound department was closed so I had to get a prescription from my regular pediatrician to have it checked out.
I should add that I broke down in hysterics and was nearly inconsolable when he told me he saw the sacral dimple and that it "could" be something to worry about... I immediately thought back to the "elevated risk" and knew the two things had to be associated. My reaction worried the nurses so much they sent a social worker to see me.  I've had a lot going on in the past few months and honestly, I just couldn't handle the thought of another medical problem.
Anyway, I took DS for an ultrasound on Tuesday and his pediatrician just called me with the results and he's FINE!! Totally normal! Nothing to worry about!!

Oh Rebecca, that is such wonderful news. I was actually just thinking about Luke's AFP results the other day and was praying that everything was OK with Luke. You are so blessed, I am so happy for you!!!
