Remember my 2 fish?
Dim and Sum? Well, Dim died last night. Poor Sum is all alone now. DH tested the water and it was perfect. Yesterday morning he was swimming up at the top of the tank, but that is normal for him. By the evening he looked horrible and died a few hours later.

Re: Remember my 2 fish?
Awww I'm sorry. What kind was he? Fish seem easy to take care of but there are so many things they need to be healthy plus there isnt a way to know a fish's age.

Re: Remember my 2 fish?
I'm sorry! We got 3 new neons last night and they were dead this morning. Everyone says fish are so easy to care for. I think dogs are easier!

they are not always so easy, and sometimes you can't always tell the quality from the store.

Re: Remember my 2 fish?
I'm not sure of your tank set-up, but your tank is probably cycling. This is something that all new tanks go through. . Your fish probably died from too much ammonia in the water. Ammonia starts to spike really high around 2-3 weeks after starting up the tank.
Cycling is when Ammonia levels spike up very high and then it goes into NitrItes and then eventually NitrAtes. During this process you need to carefully watch the ammonia levels and change the water at least once a day to dilute the ammonia. When you start seeing nitrItes that is a good sign as nitrAtes will be coming soon. During this process don't change any filter medium (you actually should never change filter medium until it starts to fall apart) and don't buy the crap cycling stuff from the pet shop.
What kind of setup do you have? Someone above said you had neons, is that correct? They are not strong enough for cycling a tank. You really shouldn't use fish to cycle a tank, but I have found that white clouds work really well and are very hardy.
ETA: I did a search and saw that you had goldfish. Goldfish are also not good for cycling a tank and they produce a lot of waste, making ammonia levels unbearable.
If you decide to keep your tank going, google cycling and feel free to ask me for any help. I don't have any fish tanks now at the moment, but I've had them my whole life (freshwater). I had one fish for ten years .
ETA: sorry for your loss
