Reminder: Wantagh residents - Trump tax rally on Saturday 10/13

for noon on Saturday Oct 13 at the Bandshell on the Jones Beach Boardwalk. Nassau County Tax Assessor Harvey Levinson is organizing a rally for the community to protest the favorable tax treatment for Donald Trump's new restaurant at the beach.

Just like the restaurants at Bethpage State Park and Eisenhower Park, Trump will not have to pay tax. However our taxes will continue to go up as someone will have to pay for the emergency calls at his facility that the Wantagh FD will have to respond to.

The rally is aimed at securing some sort of property tax payments from the Trump Organization for the benefit of the Wantagh FD and Wantagh school district.

We are definately going. I got this info from the 9/27 issue of the Wantagh Seaford Citizen (bottom of front page). I'll bump this again a few days before.

Why don't they have to pay taxes? That seems ridiculous.

It's part of the deal the state made with them to have their catering facilities in state parks. They pay the rent to the state and they don't have to pay taxes, so it's rediculously cheap for them versus having it elsewhere. But it's not fair to local residents who have to subsidize their portion of emergency services.

I don't think that the previous restuarant didn't pay taxes either, but it wasn't as big as Trump is planning to make and I'm sure Trump's will be busier just because of the name.

I'm still lost on why they don't pay taxes -- having a catering facilities in a state park means they have a gorgeous setting that brings in business! The setting is one of the main reasons I had my wedding at the Carlyle!

This happens everywhere. All over the country there are businesses who do not pay school or county taxes as an incentive to have the business in an area which benefits the community.

If he is going to make the place better, then I say where is the loss. The current proprietor is not paying taxes so nothing is gained or lost.

Thats my Opinion.

I understand that rationale, but there has not been a restuarnt there for a few years and our taxes have continued to go up substantially. Trump plans on expanding the size of the facility so there will be more people there and more emergency calls. Wantagh has next to no businesses in our district to offset property taxes, yet we have Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh Park and Cedar Creek Park all in our fire district that we have to cover the emergency calls for. It's about time we stood up and said enough is enough.

That's my opinion.

I agree with you. DH and I are planning to look in Wantagh after we sell our current house and this gets me angry. (I don't like Trump anyway, but it's still unfair.)
