Remodeling House--Where to start?
This process is so overwellming, were dong the Kitchen, bathrooms and windows
Any product recommendations are greatly appreciated, especially appliances.
I think the overwellming part for me is picking the products:
Appliances: Which Brand is better? Is there a particular feature you like? I know I don't like the ice thing on the fridge door. But I do like the french door top fridge. I don't know what colors (paint/tile/flooring, etc.) I like--I seem to like all.
Window coverings: Which style? Is there a particular feature you like?

Re: Remodeling House--Where to start?
We are not remodeling, but working on little things slowely. Here is my very uninformed opinion
I would start with windows since you will be painting and it could change the feel of a room if say you do a garden window in the kitchen or a different size in the livingroom.
I would then start looking for inspiration and a color pallete(?). I would do painting, appliances, and then flooring to end it. I have a Kenmore fench door fridge form sears that doesn't have the water feature since I didn't want it. It was a great deal! We cook a lot so for us I would love a gas cooktop, and double electric ovens, but go to Home Depot and have them do some mock ups for you. It's much easier to plan things when you can see them. I would also pick a vibe...do you want a rustic feeling home, coastal, french classic....you may find you end up painting other rooms to blend it all in!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Remodeling House--Where to start?
I am also NOT remodeling currently, but I have tackled house projects in the past and I look at a LOT of houses, obviously.
For what it's worth:
On issues of functionality (e.g., what brand/type of appliances to get), I would do some research by reading sources like consumer reports, and I would also go look at appliances at home stores and talk to the sales people about the features and benefits each offers. You are making an investment in these products and will be using them daily, so you want to make sure you are getting the most value for your money and that the appliances will have everything you want/need for your lifestyle and family.
On issues of style/aesthetics, I would break things down into little pieces. Find one thing you like, be it a fixture, a paint color, a tile color/material, and build off of that. Slowly, your rooms will start to take shape.
For example, I found it really intimidating to come up with a design (colors, furniture, etc.) for my formal living room. From flipping through home decor/design magazines, I decided I wanted to go with a soft green (with neutral/grayish undertones). So I got a paint wheel from Benjamin Moore and found the color I wanted to use. I played off of that wall color when buying an area rug. Then, I found a bar cabinet I loved, so I knew I would stay in the same dark wood tones with my other furniture. I was going for a more formal look, so I picked more formal looking furniture, in terms of couches and chairs. The colors I had already chosen for the wall and area rug helped me choose the color fabrics I wanted for my couches and chairs and pillows.... Piece by piece, the room took shape, over the course of a couple of months. But I never could have come up with it all at once.
It can be overwhelming, and it's so easy to get mired in research because there are a lot of choices available when redoing any room. But you have to start somewhere, so just make one decision and then see what flows from there.
Good luck! You'll have to post before and after pics of your renovations. I love those!
