Removing Moles

I'm having 2 moles removed that my dermatologist wants to biopsy.

How is this procedure? Painful? I'm a total baby.

One is on my face and the other on my stomach.

Re: Removing Moles

I had one removed and biopsied. It was on my hoohah. They numbed the area (didn't really hurt) and then took it off with a scalpel. Are you having a plastic surgeon look at it as well? being that it's on your face/stomach?

Depends on your level of pain - but generally not really painful - more uncomfortable.

They will numb the area, then shave or cut out the mole, then stitch you up and put on a band aide. Usually they tell you not to lift or carry anything heavy for a few days so you don't rip/tear the stitches (depending on how big the mole they are removing is) - Depending on where it is it might be a little uncomfortable but shouldn't be painful - you can generally take tylenol or advil later (no aspirin I don't think). I was always able to go to work etc after - it really is a minor procedure.

Re: Removing Moles

I just had the mother of all moles removed. It was literally nothing. I felt so silly for being such a chicken about it (I had a panic attack the first visit & left without having it done).

I did not feel a thing and the healing is painless......a little itchy at the tail end, but painless.

My Derm biopsies all raised or discoloured moles that are removed as a precaution even if it does not appear to be a problem.

Re: Removing Moles

I have had it done too and the only thing that is a bit annoying is the Lidocane(sp?) shot. Other than that it is NOTHING

I have had so many moles removed. Just had two taken off last week.

Note- Very important to get a yearly body check. This is can detect early signs of skin cancer.

Re: Removing Moles

i had one on my nose removed. I went to a dermatology surgeon to remove. barely any scar. it did not hurt, just remember burning skin since i think it bled when they were removing it.

GO TO A PLASTIC SURGEON!!! Especially b/c your face is involved! Dermatologists dig into your skin and don't give a damn what it looks like afterwards. I have had several (like 10) moles removed and the ones I had removed by Dermatologists are scars...the ones I had removed by a plastic surgeon are much better looking!!

Re: Removing Moles

I recently went to a derm for a skin check and I wanted a few moles removed that I HATE - but because they aren't dangerous according to her, she reco. me to a plastic surgeon. Does anyone know, would that be covered under insurance? Since basically my derm said they aren't a threat to me...Chat Icon

All insurances are different, but I know for mine regardless of the reason the plastic surgeon was not covered. In fact, in order to get the removal at all we had to explain (repeatedly) to the insurance admin that DS was pulling it & making it bleed.
