Removing shrubs/bushes.....

Did you do it yourself or hire someone. I have a ton of overgrown stuff all around my house. I called someone yesterday to get an estimate for how much it would be to remove and they wanted $2500Chat Icon .....that sounds so high to me.....I'm wondering if we can do some of it on our own or maybe find someone cheaper.....any suggestions

How many are you having removed?
We had 3 different people come this weekend to remove 18 trees and bushes - The average was $2100.

Re: Removing shrubs/bushes.....

DH & I did it all ourselves. It took some time but for us, it was not worth spending the $$ to have someone else do something we were capable of doing...

Re: Removing shrubs/bushes.....

Our huge trees, I hired someone, but for bushes, brush and small trees, I just tied a rope around them, tied them to my truck and pulled them out. I put them into my truck and dumped them all at the recycling center near the Ronkonkoma train station.

Re: Removing shrubs/bushes.....

For that bushes/shrubs I would do it myself. We did it last year with a couple of them. Not worth $2500 in my eyes.

If you do it yourself, just be aware of where gas/water etc. lines come into your house. My parents had a large shrub (it was about 30 years old) when they went to remove it they discovered the root system had grown around the gas line. They had to dig it out by hand.

We pulled out the bushes and shrubs on our own (we're still in the process - we just did the ones in front of the house and have to do the side still).

Re: Removing shrubs/bushes.....

We did it ourselves. Our house had alot of bushes I couldn't stand and we got rid of most of them. I have some more to rid my yard of. We also removed a tremendous amount of ivy (there are pics in my album). I have to say it was a lot of work but well worth it--but we also borrowed a bobcat (a small diesel engined machine (in our album)) which was a tremendous help because it did most of the work and pulled out the roots too. The only bush we had professionally removed was one in the middle of the yard when the tree stump grinder came and did it for us.

Re: Removing shrubs/bushes.....

We did a row of bushes by ourselves...it was torture...the roots were so deep and wrapped around tree roots...oh man, was I aching for weeks!!

So, we decided to pay to have the rest taken out, and it was worth it!!!

I sent you an FM!

Re: Removing shrubs/bushes.....

We took out 3 trees and transplanted a few bushes by ourselves last year. It was a lot of work but it was worth the $$ we saved.
