Renovate or move?
Anyone else having this dilemma? We are outgrowing our house, and are in the "move or build" pickle.
What did you do?

Re: Renovate or move?
I would look into both- get estimates and look at new houses
then decide which would truely be better for you-
if you love your house- you might just want to add on to it
or maybe you will go out looking and find something you truley love

I agree - you need to evaluate both options.
It might be nice to rennovate your current house and make it exactly how you want it if you do have room to grow..... Rennovations are a lot of work, but then again, so is selling your house, buying another and then moving!
Good luck in whatever you decide.

Re: Renovate or move?
I agree w/ the others, get estimates on both. I know lately because prices of homes are so high it is cheapr for pple to re-do their homes than buy a new one. If it were me and I liked the area I was in and had enough land, I would just extend the house and update the interior if needed.

Re: Renovate or move?
We just went through this. We did get prices for expanding, and we looked at houses. We ended up deciding to expand. We love our neighborhood, have good neighbors and a good school district. We also like our location as it is near work, highways and family. Most of the homes we looked at were overpriced, and we even made an offer on one about two months ago - they didn't accept and the house is still on the market. We really couldn't find what we wanted at a reasonable price. We also might have had to accept less than we wanted for our current house as we needed the proceeds for a down payment.
Expanding is going to be a lot of work - we are in the process of choosing everything right now (plans are done and submitted to the town for approval - hopefully no variances are needed). They will probably start in about two months. It will be a huge inconvenience, not to mention mess, but I'm thinking it will be worth it in the end.
Good luck with your decision!
