Renters...IS there someone you can complain to if your landlord is just NOT fixing something?

The roof in our apartment has been leaking for over a month now.....last night was the worst...DH had to put a garbage can in our computer room...the landlord knows about this and has done horrible patch jobs...I am really worried about mold and now the carpet is soaking wet.

Is there a reasonable amount of time that this should be fixed AND who should I go to if it is not fixed soon?

Have you signed a lease? If not maybe you should look into leaving and finding a new place.

your other option is to send your landlord a certified letter - telling him he has 30 day to respond to your request or you will get it fixed yourself (Along with documentation on how many times you have complained) and send him the bill along with your rent short paid the amount it cost to fix it.

Great thank you...do you think they should also be responsible for removing the mold that has built up as well as shampoo the carpet that has been wet for 2 days tooChat Icon

I feel your pain Kathleen, the celing in our bathroom keeps falling apart and they fix it and then it happens again a month later after it takes them two months to fix it. I just gave up on it now. We are not going to be renewing our lease in January.Chat Icon

i'd keep bugging your landlord...hopefully you'll be so annoying that he will want you off his back.

i wouldn't do anything yourself though. you never know if you'll get reimbursed from him.
