Renting a home

Does anyone here rent a house? Or would rent a house?

How much do you/would you be willing to pay for a 2-3 BR home?

I am thinking of this as an option while my husband and I are separated so that we can both live elsewhere but not sell the house right away.

Thanks! Chat Icon

Depends on the location. The futher West and North you would get more.

Our home is in central Nassau, good shools, 2-3 BR, close to everything, nice neighborhood. The thing is, it would only work if the rent came close to the mortgage and taxes. I think that may be hard to get. Chat Icon

Re: Renting a home

i've rented a house before, a 2/3 br for 1775. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would rent your house.

I wouldn't consider renting a house just because it is so expensive! you might as well have a mortgage.

however, to answer your Q, I think somewhere around $1700-$2200 (depending on where it is) is a fair price for LI.

just wanted to say... I am in OH visting and DH's aunt has a drop dead gorgeous house on 1/2 an acre. she's renting it for 2 months to a couple from FL and they're paying $1,000 a month! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Renting a home

I would say not over $2000...I personally wouldn't do over $1700 for a 2/3 bedroom...How long are you thinking though? Will you have them sign a year contract? Renting furnished or unfurnished? If they pay movers it really doesn't pay to stay under a year...

My parents own a duplex in Northport -each side is a 3 bedroom, basement, 1.5 bath & rent is for one is $1600. I think they can get more but they like the couple that lives there - so they'll pretty much never raise it because it's better to have a good tenant.

Also they rented out my grandmother's Lake Grove/Stony Brook house for $1600 too. It's a single family 2 bedroom 1 bath w. garage.

Oh, definitely, my mom rents a beautiful apartment in a complex. I think hers is $1800 in Suffolk for 2 bedroom.
