Renting a vacation house w/ toddlers
DH and I are going to Cape Cod for a week w/ the boys and will be renting a house.
If you've BTDT, how much baby proofing did you do at the your rental house? Should I bring gates? I have 2 crazy climbers who aren't the calmest kids in the world.
I really want to enjoy the trip as much as possible and don't want to worry every time the kids are running around.
We're going to rent a house w/ 1 floor only so stairs won't be a problem.

I would see what the house has, sometimes they have stuff already
But yes, I'd bring gates in your situation

Re: Renting a vacation house w/ toddlers
We rented a beach house last year when DD was into EVERYTHING - she was about 16 months. We brought the toilet locks from home as well as some of the cabinet locks. We didn't bring gates since the house was on one floor, but we did run into an issue on the stairs for the front and back porch. We worked around it and everything was fine, but in hindsight it would have been good to have them for that reason.
It's a paint to lug all that junk with you, but if you think you will need them then I would bring them.
HTH!

Re: Renting a vacation house w/ toddlers
We went to Ireland for 2 weeks and rented 2 different houses. The biggest problem was the stairs but thankfully you are avoiding that issue. The other issue was all the kitchen cabinets.
You may want to consider one gate to block off the kitchen. Other than that she was really fine. After her initial crazy run around the new house like a lunatic tour...she was content with her toys in one room. Keep all doors closed (bathrooms, bedrooms, basement) and they won't even realize what's behind them because it's an unfamiliar house. Oh and check the front and back doors. We didn't realize one screen door opened with the slightest touch and she leaned on it and out she went!
Have fun!!!!!!!!!!

I think a gate to close off the kitchen and then keeping all the other room doors closed throughout the day should be fine - this is what we do at home on a daily basis. That way DS can roam around the living room and play room and I don't have to freak out.
Maybe bring a pack of outlet covers too.
