Re: Renting an instrument for School Band???
I own one! I started it in 3rd grade. After a year or two when it became apparent I would continue to play, my parents bought me one.
Sorry that didn't answer your question... I think you can rent it through the school, no?

The reason I ask, is a friend told me she paid almost $300 to rent her DD a saxaphone. I figured that if a flute was that much I may just buy it. I found one on overstock for $155

Re: Renting an instrument for School Band???
Most music stores will rent you an instrument. You can try places like Munro Music in East Northport, Music & Arts in Lindenhurst, etc. If you go to a place that's in your distrcit usually they will give you a dscount or deal of some kind.
I rent my son's viola from Music & Arts and it's about $20 a month... with the insurance, of course.
It may not be worth it to buy it now. I don't know how the sizing goes on band instruments, but with the orchestra there is different sizing depending on the length of the child's arms. Since your DDs size will probably change in a year or 2, you may not want to spend $155 on something, KWIM?

I rent my kids' instruments (trombone and trumpet) at Music and Arts in Lake Grove on Middle Country Road.
They are both $89.99 for the school year - 10 months - plus $19.99 optional insurance.
