renting your home

DH and I would love to sell our house, but we can't right now b/c we would still owe about $50,000 towards the balance. We've had it listed for rent on MLSLI for a while now, and have only had 1 person come look at it. We have it listed for $2,200. Its a 3 bedroom on a 1/2 acre in Middle Island on the border of Coram. How can we get this house rented? For many reasons, we'd like to move out of the house. I figured you can rent a 2 bedroom apartment for $1200-$1800. This is a whole house! We don't mind pets. We don't even care if the renters paint the walls, as long as they are painted neutral when they move out. What do we do?

Re: renting your home

your price might be a bit high. I pretty much pay that for my mortgage so I would never pay that much in rent when I can own for that.

We were told it was a little high, but we were being hopeful. We pay $2500 for our mortgage plus utilities. We bought at the height of the market, so we didn't get much of a deal.

Find out if you can post your listing in the newsletter or in the main buildings at Brookhaven National Lab. My office is in the area & we have many patients that work at the lab but are renting houses because they were transfered here from somewhere else.

We might rent our house in Ridge instead of selling when we moving further East in the next several months. My house is 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths w/full basement, waterview & beach rights & we are planning on listing it for $2,100-$2,300.
Your listing price might be a tiny bit high. Have you tried using a realtor?

We are using a relator, and he said we should list it at $1900. We wanted to start higher and work down if we could b/c we are paying the remaining balance on the mortgage. But, looks like we may have to drop down the listing price.

Re: renting your home

As a renter, I think that the price is way too high for Suffolk county compared to other rentals near you. I think your realtor may be more on the mark with $1900. Good luck Chat Icon

Re: renting your home

I looked up on MLS to see if the pics were not inviting--is it only 1 bathroom? If it's the ranch on there w/ 3 beds, 1 bath, I think the realtor is right, and it would be more like $1700-1900.

I live in Three Village and a much larger ranch on my street with large bedrooms and 2 baths just rented for $1800 a month.

Re: renting your home

My parents rent a 3 bedroom house in Ronkonkoma for $1800. If renters do their homework and really look around they can find cheaper places. I would list it for $1900 and then you may have a renter.
