Renting...how to make a room appear "bigger"

We are renting now, but thinking about moving to a bigger unit. I need some suggestions on ways to make a room look BIGGER. I've heard hanging mirrors, keeping ceilings white....any other tips?? thanks!

Get rid of clutter.

Even remove furniture that you never use or don't really need.

I agree with the no clutter

Less is more they say!

Also, don't put too many things on the walls, a mirror will def. help but keep it clean looking.

Light color on the walls

If there are windows in the room, let as much light in as possible

I completely agree, less clutter is much better. A nice simple mirror (not heavy wood detail) and just the right amount of furniture you need in that room and no more. Depending on the room, try to buy smaller furniture....meaning not to bulky, clean smooth lines.

I've also read that if you hang a mirror it makes the room appear bigger

Here's some ideas:

Article 1

Article 2

Article 3

There's definitely a lot of repeated themes - hope this helps!

all of the above, and you can define spaces with area rugs 9even if they are to be layed over carpeting) and then you see where a space ends and another bigins showing th eye how large a space really is
