Replacing a Fence
For a house in Lindenhurst Village can you just rip down an old fence and put up a new one in it's place. I checked with town of babylon which Lindenhurst is part of and says, you don't need a permit to put up a fence. Someone told me however that you need to get a land assessor/land blue prints, can't remember the name of this but it's the paper that tells you where your land ends in order to put up a new fence even if you are just putting a new one in the same place the old one is.

Re: Replacing a Fence
you should definitely get a surveyor out there. they will do a property survey and they will put down stakes along your property line, so there's no mistake about where your new fence should go. i know the town of brookhaven allows you to put up a fence directly ON the property line, but other towns may be different. our survey cost $650, and then it was $50 per stake (we put down 4)...total came to $850.

Re: Replacing a Fence
You need to check with the Building Department in your village. They have different rules than the townships. Just because t/o Babylon allows it doesn't mean that the v/o Lindenhurst will.
