replacing car seats after accident
Dh had an accident yesterday. He is fine, and DD wasn't in the car...THANK GOODNESS!
The car got beat up a bit. Do I need to replace the car seat that he had in his car? Will insurance pay for this?

Re: replacing car seats after accident
The replacement depends on the type of crash. If the vehicle was able to leave the scene on its own power, minimal damage, the seat will most likely not be replaced. If the crash required towing from the scene, the seat must be replaced. Insurance will cover the replacement, but may require you to give them the old seat.
If the insurance company gives you a hard time, ask for a letter from them to take responsibility if the child is injured in that seat if a crash were to occur in the future. The will replace the seat.

Re: replacing car seats after accident
YES!!! You MUST replace it. Call your insurance company and they will tell you to get a carseat and submit the bill to them. By law they have to. If you have any more questions FM me. My DH is an adjuster.

Re: replacing car seats after accident
Unfortunately, there is NO law. I wish there were. This is a policy set by insurance companies after recommendations by NHTSA. Insurance companies are not required to replace seats, they do as a matter of safety. Please also note that not every accident requires replacement. If the car was involved in a fender bender replacement is not necessary nor required.

I believe (and Christy can correct me if I'm wrong) that it was a pretty bad accident and the car may have been totalled. So, I'm thinking the car seat should be replaced, right?

Re: replacing car seats after accident
If the car were totaled - yes, the seat must be replaced and insurance will cover it.
Hopefully no one was injured.
