replacing water boiler/oil burner
Anyone replace their entire oil burner system recently? Do you mind sharing how much it was to buy and install a new water boiler and burner? How much has your oil delivery bills gone down since then?
Just trying to figure out the costs of it all.....
Thanks!

Re: replacing water boiler/oil burner
Our oil burner is on it's last legs. When Slomins was here servicing it recently, they told us it's about $5,000 to replace the burner.

Teri, as part of the AC, we also replaced our furnace (we have gas heat though) and several companies quoted us about $3500. I realize oil burner is different though.

Re: replacing water boiler/oil burner
Yes, we replaced a separate hot water heater (need it for the jacuzzi tub), a Weil McLean (my contractor said that's top of the line and will last for 30 years) burner, and got a new oil tank installed outside of the house in a tub.
My contractor started out life as a plumber and he put the boiler/hot water heater in for us. I think he charged us $6,000 including installation and the cost of the system. I saw his cost so it was an excellent price. We get our oil COD (last delivery was $1.99 a gallon) so I didn't want a company to put a "free" one in because they make up the difference with a higher price for oil.
It came in a thousand pieces and took him 3-4 days to put in.

Re: replacing water boiler/oil burner
Thanks everyone!
When you replace the whole system, would that normally include the actual oil tank too? I didn't think about that
I first thought the total cost would be around $7k, so quotes of around $5k are better

The oil tank was not replaced. We got ours done last year. Some of the chaper systems we $3K. And the really expensive ones were $9-10K. Our was about $6K I think.

Re: replacing water boiler/oil burner
I heard the average boiler replacement runs around 5k. This does not include the oil tank... but I would imagine if your tank is already above ground they can just use the existing tank.
