I never understand why people point out specific brands or desingers who use fur

SOOOOOOOOOO MANY MANY MANY clothing brands use fur at one point or another..

It is a personaly choice if you want to wear it or not..

And if the majority of the pubic didn't want to wear it...then there would be no more brands putting out products with it

until then...what are ya going to do..

this IMO is one in a million

yes, many deisgner use real fur.... thats not the point.

the point IS that the more people know designers that use real fur and how its attaimed the more ppl there are that will boycott it.

obviously if you dont want to wear fur you wont, BUT for example:..........
what if i liked their bags and/ or perfume??? (those products obviously dont have fur)... well, i NOW know that the company uses real fur therefore now i know to boycott ALL of their products. it goes deeper than just noth wearing furChat Icon

Agreed. Many designers may use fur, but by targeting one company at a time PETA is hoping to maximize the response to that particular company (it worked for Ralph Lauren and JCrew who no longer have fur after PETA's campaign and all the negative consumer feedback). If a few people on here send the CEO an email, maybe that will help a change happen. And then PETA can move their campaign on to focus on a different company.

On a side note - that site is disgusting. Now I remember why I tend to avoid PETA sites - so so sad. Chat Icon

For people who care about these things, but do not have the time to research each and every company to determine which ones are the worst violaters, this kind of information is extraordinarly helpful. Personally, I am disgusted by companies that use fur, but do I have the time to research and discover each and every one? No. I had no idea that Burberry sells fur products, but now that I do, I will never buy any of their products. THAT is the purpose of this post...

i got the point..

i just feel that PETA picks a designer or a brand to make them their "fur pic" of the month

i mean come one now..

just make a list and 411 it already

although i think it would turn out to be a novel rather than a list...
IN FACT i think i wonder how long the list of those designers that have never used fur in their lines would be

i mean main stream designers or brands that is

Targeting a single company and making a campaign against that company has proved successful for PETA in the past. By focusing their campaign on 1 company, they allow consumers to focus their attention on that 1 company. A more diffuse campaign would likely have little effect.

Each company that gives up fur (especially big names that most everyone knows like Jcrew, Banana, Ralph Lauren and hopefully one day Burberry) is a step (albeit a small step) in the right direction.

ETA: The selection of which companies they target is not haphazard either. They try to target companies that obtain their fur from the worst offending companies, such as China, which has NO laws protecting animals on fur farms. Footage obtained from chinese fur farms showing the animals treatment and deaths is beyond nauseating.

Definitely would be great. Some fur free companies include:

Jcrew
Banana Republic
Wet Seal (only promised to be no fur in fall 06 collection)
Ralph Lauren (just signed on)
Stella McCartney
Marc Bouwer
Jay McCarroll
Zara
H&M
Forever 21
Gadzooks
Ann Taylor
A&F
Abercrombie
Gap
Red Envelope (previously had rabbit earmuffs)
Bombay

Companies that get their fur from China - where some of the worst animal welfare violations occur:
Tommy Hilfiger
DKNY
Sean John

Retailers who have pledged to not buy Wool from Australia (where like fur animals - sheep are treated inhumanely and killed in disgusting ways for their wool):
A&F
Timberland
Limited Brands (Limited, Victoria Secret, Express, Henri Bendel)

Edited to add Wool and a few more companies

Their letter writing campaigns and asking consumers to tell companies they will not buy their product if they use fur/Australian wool, etc - have been effective and I support these kind of tactics.

Some of their campaigns are stupid and cruel towards people. I do not support these tactics, and I think they do more harm than good most times (by tainting the public opinion towards PETA and thus public receptivity towards PETA campaigns). I do think some of their shock tactics are good though in that they may shock a few people out of the apathetic existence they currently live.

PETA is filled with people who love animals and are bombarded with all the horrible things that happen to animals throughout the world in the name of food/fashion, I am not surprised that the go off the deep end sometimes in the name of animal welfare (not that I condone, I simply understand)
