REPOST FOUND GERMAN SHEPARD! CANT FIND OWNERS ANYWHERE!
I posted this on Pets but this board gets way more traffic...Pls read!
hi everyone my husband and I found a German Shepard roaming around our block this afternoon and the only tag on her neck is of her rabies tag the Id # is 5051(we live in East Northport)
She is around 6-7 years old from what we can tell. She is black tan feet black face with a little gray fur around her neck with a red collar around her neck.
Our neighbors say they have seen her for at least a week. she was so hungry she ate 3 cans of food. If anyone knows someone looking for a missing dog with this tag # PLEASE FM me
Thank you
REPLY TO POSTERS ON PETS:
Hi everyone Nrthshrgrl Its not me posting any flyers we just found her today, but what information is on the flyer? Someone else saying they found her or someone looking for her?
There was a number to Garden City Vet. which we called and there records matched the tag to someone a few blocks away from us BUT she has her dog and her tag # was the same.....except this dog tag says 2001 and her dogs tag was 2005 so the records are a little messed up.
They gave us the # to The Little Shelter whom has yet to return our call
I tried the #'s you posted for me but there closed we will try back tomorrow first thing in the morning.
Does anyone have any advice, we cant bing her in the house b/c we have our DD and a little dog and you just never know, my DH said we should set up a bed for her in the garage b/c I dont want to leave in her the backyard its cold out I know she has been out on the street for who knows how long but still I feel so bad, I would bring her in in a heartbeat but I cant take that chance.
Any advice, we feel so bad for her if we only knew she was not going to turn on us we would..
Also, if no one claims her I would hate to see her go back to shelter, if I bring her to the vet, to make sure she is ok there is no way of knowing if she is good with kids and other dogs with out taking the chance and finding out correct????
Any help were so confused and we know we could keep her in a minute if she had to return to a shelter, its just to sad.
PLS help!

Re: REPOST FOUND GERMAN SHEPARD! CANT FIND OWNERS ANYWHERE!
I saw flyers for a FOUND dog in East Northport, not a lost one. If I see any flyers, I'll FM you ASAP.
I wish I could take him for you but I'm not comfortable bringing a strange dog around my kids. I did it last time when Joseph was 8 months old for a few nights until we found the owner.
I think the best place under the circumstances are a no-kill shelter. You would have to keep on them. If I lost my dog the first place I would call would be the town shelters.

It's sooo nice of you to keep her in your garage until you hear something. I hope you hear something too. Unless the owner is elderly and maybe doesnt have the ability to post anything :(
Letting her stay in your garage for the time being is a great idea. Poor thing!

Re: REPOST FOUND GERMAN SHEPARD! CANT FIND OWNERS ANYWHERE!
If you can't bring the dog into your house, you really should bring it to the town shelter by the dump as opposed to leaving it outside.
And they may be able to track down the rabies tag (even if it's old). In any case, they have twice been helpful when I found roaming dogs.
Good luck!

i would take him to a no-kill shelter.. they will be able to check and see if he is microchipped, and if he is they'll be able to find his owner....

Re: REPOST FOUND GERMAN SHEPARD! CANT FIND OWNERS ANYWHERE!
well this morning the little shelter in huntington called us back and came and picked her up. They had no reports of anyone looking for a german shepard.
She slept all night in the garage on a big comforter with a nice big bone to chew on & she seemed so happy this morning when we went in to see her and bring her breakfast.
Breaks my heart to have to give her up, but the guy that came for her said she looked well nourished and was not dehrydated so that made us feel better, he promised to let us know if no one claims her, then DH said we would go back for her and adopt her so she has a home.
I miss her I hope her owners are looking for her she was so sweet.
